IT Support Technician – Managed Services Provider
VIP Networks is seeking a dependable, technically capable IT Support Technician to support small and midsize business clients throughout the Bradenton and Sarasota area.
This is a hands-on position in a managed IT services environment. You will work with a wide variety of businesses, users, and technologies rather than supporting only one company or network. The right person will enjoy troubleshooting, communicating with clients, documenting their work, and taking ownership of problems through resolution.
This is primarily a work-from-home position, but it is not fully remote. The technician will frequently travel to client locations throughout the Bradenton and Sarasota area to troubleshoot problems, install equipment, perform maintenance, and complete other onsite work. Reliable transportation and the ability to respond professionally in client environments are essential.
We are looking for someone who is curious, professional, organized, and able to work independently. You do not need to know every technology on your first day, but you must be able to troubleshoot methodically, learn quickly, and recognize when to ask for help.
Employment Structure
This is a W-2 employee position beginning with a 60-day introductory period. During this period, we will evaluate technical ability, dependability, communication, documentation, client service, willingness to learn, and overall fit with VIP Networks.
The introductory period gives both the employee and VIP Networks an opportunity to determine whether the position is a good long-term fit. Successful completion of the introductory period is expected for continued employment but does not alter the at-will nature of the employment relationship.
What You’ll Do
- Respond to client support requests promptly and professionally
- Troubleshoot Windows computers, business applications, desktop printers, multifunction printers, receipt printers, user accounts, email, and connectivity issues
- Diagnose and resolve problems involving Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, networks, servers, Wi-Fi, VoIP phones, security cameras, printers, and other business technology
- Install and troubleshoot local and network printers, print drivers, print queues, scanning functions, and related connectivity
- Provide remote and onsite support while minimizing disruption to the client
- Take ownership of assigned tickets and follow them through to resolution
- Communicate clearly with clients about problems, expected next steps, and resolutions
- Follow up after repairs, installations, and system changes to confirm everything continues to work properly
- Perform routine maintenance and proactive work required by client support agreements
- Accurately document time, troubleshooting steps, configurations, and resolutions in support tickets
- Maintain client documentation, equipment inventories, repair histories, and technical procedures
- Diagnose physical network and cabling problems, including damaged cables, faulty terminations, incorrect patching, and inactive network drops
- Test, trace, terminate, repair, and label Ethernet network cabling
- Install RJ45 connectors and terminate Ethernet cabling at keystone jacks and patch panels
- Install and replace network equipment such as switches, wireless access points, firewalls, patch panels, and related components
- Identify recurring problems, security weaknesses, aging equipment, and other opportunities to improve a client’s technology
- Recommend appropriate upgrades or improvements when they would meaningfully benefit a client
- Escalate issues appropriately while remaining responsible for client communication and follow-through
- Periodically contact clients to confirm that their technology is working well and determine whether they have unresolved needs
What We’re Looking For
- Previous experience in IT support, help desk, desktop support, field service, system administration, or a similar technical role
- Strong Windows desktop troubleshooting and computer repair skills
- Working knowledge of business networks, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless networking
- Ability to troubleshoot physical network connectivity using appropriate cable-testing and diagnostic tools
- Experience terminating and repairing Ethernet cabling, including installing RJ45 connectors and keystone jacks
- Ability to test and verify cable terminations, identify wiring faults, trace network drops, and clearly label network cabling
- Experience installing and troubleshooting desktop printers, networked multifunction printers, receipt printers, print drivers, print queues, scanning functions, and related connectivity issues
- Familiarity with Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace administration, including user accounts, permissions, email, security settings, and multifactor authentication
- Ability to troubleshoot unfamiliar problems logically rather than relying only on scripted solutions
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to explain technical issues to nontechnical users clearly and respectfully
- Strong organization, documentation, and follow-up habits
- Ability to manage multiple open issues and determine what requires immediate attention
- Professionalism, integrity, dependability, and respect for client confidentiality
- Ability to work independently while recognizing when an issue should be escalated
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for onsite client visits
Helpful but Not Required
Experience with any of the following is beneficial:
- Managed service provider—or MSP—experience
- Microsoft Entra ID, Intune, Defender, Microsoft 365 Business Premium, or Google Workspace administration
- Windows Server and Active Directory
- Firewalls, VPNs, VLANs, managed switches, and business Wi-Fi

- Remote monitoring and management or professional services automation platforms
- Structured cabling, patch panels, punch-down blocks, cable certification, and low-voltage installations
- Industry certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, or Microsoft certifications
Certifications are welcome, but demonstrated ability, sound judgment, client-service skills, and a willingness to learn are more important.

- Assigned work is followed through without constant reminders
- Technical knowledge and troubleshooting ability continue to grow
- Network cabling and equipment installations are completed neatly, tested thoroughly, and documented properly
- Security concerns and opportunities for improvement are recognized and communicated
- Commitments to clients and coworkers are consistently honored
- The technician can work independently while escalating appropriately
