Responsibilities
- Assist healthcare providers with patient examinations, procedures, and treatments in various specialties including dermatology, hospital medicine, and urgent care.
- Take and record vital signs accurately while ensuring patient comfort and safety.
- Prepare patients for exams by reviewing medical histories and explaining procedures clearly.
- Collect specimens for laboratory testing such as phlebotomy and prepare samples for analysis.
- Manage electronic health records (EHR/EHR systems), ensuring precise documentation of medical history, diagnoses (ICD coding), medications, and treatment plans.
- Support medical administrative tasks including appointment scheduling, patient intake, insurance verification, and maintaining medical records.
- Assist with medication administration under supervision and support medication reconciliation processes.
- Maintain a clean and organized clinical environment while adhering to infection control protocols.
- Support hospital experience requirements by assisting in inpatient units or trauma centers when needed.
Skills
- Extensive knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and ICD coding to ensure accurate documentation and effective communication.
- Proven experience in outpatient clinics, hospital settings, or specialty practices such as dermatology or geriatrics.
- Proficiency with Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems and EMR/EHR management tools for seamless data entry and retrieval.
- Strong patient service skills with the ability to provide compassionate care during intake, vital sign collection, and patient education.
- Experience with phlebotomy techniques and basic life support (BLS) certification to handle emergency situations confidently.
- Familiarity with medical assisting duties including medication administration, specimen collection, and assisting with procedures like suturing or wound care when applicable.
- Knowledge of hospital medicine protocols, inpatient/outpatient workflows, PICU or OR experience is a plus for specialized roles.
- Ability to manage medical documentation accurately while adhering to privacy regulations such as HIPAA standards.
