Position Summary :
The Billing Specialist is responsible for working accounts receivable follow up on designated insurance policies and monitoring insurance payments and denials to ensure timely filing. The Billing Specialist will work within the Accounts Receivable billing team for TIIA and will report directly to the Revenue Cycle Manager.
Job Functions :
- Works accounts receivable follow up for assigned insurance policies. Follows up with insurance carriers on unpaid claims until claims are paid or only self-pay balance remains
- Secures needed medical documentation required or requested by insurances
- Processes rejected claims and appeals on accounts as needed.
- Performs follow up on claims as needed.
- Manages daily productivity to meet company standards.
- Works with physician or medical record staff to ensure that correct diagnosis/procedures are reported to insurance carriers
- Monitors claims for missing information and authorization/control numbers
- Completes work within an efficient and timely manner. Keeping in mind timely filing limit restrictions by insurance companies
- Keeps updated on all billing requirements and changes for insurance types within the area of responsibility
- Responds to patient and payer inquiries and concerns
- Maintains strict confidentiality related to all patients’ private health information (PHI) in accordance with companies HIPAA policies and procedures
Qualifications:
- High school graduate preferred or GED diploma.
- 1+ years of medical billing experience
- Prior experience with all payer types: Commercial, Medicare, Medicaid preferably in a multi-facility setting.
- Demonstrated computer skills are required, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Detail oriented
- Knowledge of medical terminology likely to be encountered in medical claims.
- Ability to adapt to company’s standard software program
- Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment to meet deadlines.
- Shows problem solving skills to research and resolve discrepancies, denials, appeals, and collections.
- Strives for the highest level of accuracy possible
