We are a manufacturing company seeking an experienced local software developer to take over ongoing development and maintenance of our custom, in-house ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system. Our current developer is transitioning out, and we need a skilled professional who can quickly get up to speed, become familiar with the existing codebase, and continue to build, maintain, and refine the system as our business needs evolve.
This is not a from-scratch build — you will be inheriting a working, complex system and will be responsible for understanding it deeply, fixing bugs, adding features, and improving overall performance and usability.
WHAT THE SYSTEM DOES
Our custom ERP platform is the backbone of our manufacturing operations. It currently handles invoicing and customer billing, real-time inventory management, manufacturing piece count and production tracking, driver delivery updates and field logistics, and RFID scanning and asset tracking throughout the facility.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We need someone who is not just a remote contractor, but a true local partner — someone who can visit our facility, walk the floor, understand our workflows firsthand, and translate real operational needs into software solutions. Attention to detail and the ability to communicate clearly with non-technical staff is just as important as your coding ability.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Review and fully understand the existing codebase and system architecture. Perform ongoing maintenance, bug fixes, and performance improvements. Develop new features and enhancements as operational needs arise. Collaborate directly with management and floor staff to identify pain points and improvement opportunities. Maintain clear documentation of all changes and system updates. Ensure RFID hardware integrations remain functional and accurate. Be available for on-site visits as needed to observe workflows and gather requirements.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Proven experience developing custom business software or ERP systems. Proficiency in the core languages and frameworks used in our existing system, details shared upon interview. Experience with database design and management. RFID hardware and software integration experience is strongly preferred. Familiarity with manufacturing or warehouse operations is a plus. Ability to independently read, understand, and build upon an existing codebase. Strong communication skills and a collaborative, problem-solving mindset.
ENGAGEMENT AND COMPENSATION
This is a contract position paid on an hourly or project basis depending on the scope of work. Rate is competitive and commensurate with experience. Please include your rate expectations in your application. Work will be scoped and agreed upon on an ongoing basis as needs arise. Local candidates only. On-site availability is required.
HOW TO APPLY
Please submit your resume or LinkedIn profile, a brief description of similar projects you have worked on, any relevant portfolio pieces or GitHub links, and your hourly or project rate expectations.
We are an equal opportunity employer and welcome applicants of all backgrounds.
