Biocare Oncology & Therapeutics, LLC is looking for a Medical Assistant for a multi-specialty infusion center in Atlanta. This is a highly customer-centric role with a strong focus on patient interaction and assisting our registered nurses with patient care. This individual will be responsible for patient registration, insurance eligibility and verifications and follow-up, taking the necessary steps to ensure complete patient satisfaction. This individual must have the ability to multi-task between various roles within the medical clinic. Phelmbotomy and IV access experience is desirable. Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner so that you work productively, effectively, and efficiently with customers, patients and management. The successful candidate will also play a key role in ensuring accurate and timely billing processes. This position requires a candidate with excellent organizational skills, a strong understanding of medical practice procedures, and the ability to multitask and self motivated. This is an onsite position.
Overview:
We are currently seeking a detail-oriented and organized individual to join our medical infusion practice as a Medical Assistant. Responsible for assisting clinicians in patient care, including financially securing patient accounts for all infusions, verifying benefits, managing referrals, and notifying patients of appointments and balance due.
Responsibilities:
- Meeting and greeting patients, scheduling, canceling, and rescheduling patient appointments.
- Accurately completing and documenting patient medical and physical histories and other related items in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
- Aiding the clinicians during treatment, examination, and or testing of patients - may include injections, IV access, Lab drawn and medication administration.
- Maintains thorough understanding of insurance, payment reimbursement, account reconciliation, referrals, authorizations, and account follow-up to secure reimbursement of claims.
- Monitors schedule, verifies benefits, and manages referrals/authorizations prior to day of appointment for all Infusion Services patients
- Calculates and notifies patients of payments and outstanding balances due, works with self-pay patients and patients with large outstanding balances to set up payment plans
- Accurately provides or counsels patients and/or relatives with pertinent information regarding payment for medical treatment or procedures
- Participates in marketing activities as directed by the Infusion Manager
- Assisting in patient enrollment with financial aid programs for co-payment assistance and free drug programs serving as a patient advocate.
- Must be accurate and thorough—monitoring own work to check for errors.
- Coordinate all insurance eligibility verifications for patients and proactively obtain prior authorization for all prescribed products.
- Review EOBs and code payments received daily, research and solve any payment discrepancies.
- Handle any remaining balance by filing claims to co-pay assistance, and creating patient statements or write offs as needed.
- Maintain denial reports and coordinate appeals ensuring that all notes are properly documented.
- Ensure all assigned accounts are resolved timely and effectively in compliance with the payer agreement.
- Identifies patients who require financial counseling intervention; provides information regarding resources for patients who need financial help and follow up activities.
Requirements:
At least 3 years of IV Access, Phlebotomy and/or infusion experience is preferred in multi-specialty infusion setting and certification is desirable.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and record-keeping.
Proven experience as an administrative/medical assistant or in a similar role
Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Knowledge of office management systems and procedures
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Experience/Knowledge: High School diploma or GED with 2 year of related of experience in an infusion practice setting is required (combination of front and back office).
Certified Medical Assistant is desired. 2-3 years of specialty healthcare experience, multi-specialty infusion experience is preferred.
