American Traveler is seeking an experienced OR RN for a Level I trauma center in Springfield, IL, requiring a minimum of 3 years of OR experience and an active IL RN license.

Work in a 23-room Operating Room department at a 562-bed acute care, Magnet-designated, Level I trauma center
-
Works across multiple service lines including general surgery, neuro, orthopedic, plastic surgery, transplant, urology, bariatrics, and trauma — CV service line excluded

Weekend-only schedule: Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, 6:45 AM – 7:15 PM (3x12-hour day shifts)

On-call required approximately once per week

Floating within the hospital or to a nearby affiliate hospital is required of all travelers

Charting via Cerner (experience preferred)

Scrubs are provided for this role

Free parking available on-site with a permit obtained during orientation

Active IL RN license required; must be in hand or in active application process

Current BLS certification required (AHA or Red Cross accepted; RQI AHA cards not accepted)

CNOR certification required

Minimum 3 years of OR experience required

General OR and trauma experience required

Required surgical case experience spans bariatrics (laparoscopic-assisted cases), general surgery (appendectomy, cholecystectomy, colon resection, hernia repair, mastectomy, thyroidectomy, Whipple, and others), neurology (craniotomy, cervical/lumbar fusion, laminectomy/discectomy), orthopedics (arthroscopy, carpal tunnel release, open and closed fracture reduction), plastic surgery (free flap/microvascular), transplant (organ donation), and urology (cystoscopy, nephrectomy, prostatectomy)

Trauma case experience required: amputations, GSW/stab wounds, and MVA with multiple injuries

Emergency management skills required: code response, fire safety, latex allergy management, and malignant hyperthermia protocol

Equipment experience required: electrosurgical units, fiber optic light sources/cords, and Hana tables

Clinical skills required: blood product administration, infection control, radiation safety, specimen handling/labeling, universal protocol (time-out), and urinary bladder catheterization

SSN and DOB required for consideration

First-time travelers will not be considered for this position

Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position

Former permanent or PRN employees of the Memorial Hospital System must have been separated for at least 12 months before applying as a traveler

Travel pairs are not accepted

Candidates must be available to work 2 out of 3 major holidays

RTO requests beyond 5 non-holiday days require facility manager approval

All certifications must be active and current at time of consideration
