This role is a key part of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) within the Randall B. Terry, Jr. Companion Animal Medical Center — the hospital’s 24/7 critical care hub. As an ICU technician, you’ll work hands-on with a wide variety of complex small animal and exotic cases, making this an exceptional opportunity to expand your technical skills in a high‑acuity, team-driven environment.
In this position, you’ll play a direct role in delivering lifesaving care. You will triage, monitor, and treat critically ill and post‑operative patients while collaborating closely with specialty services, clinicians, students, and fellow technicians. Your work may include advanced procedures such as catheter placement, transfusions, ventilator monitoring, anesthesia recovery, and emergency response (CPR). You’ll also manage precise medication dosing, use a range of monitoring and life‑support equipment, and provide continuous observation for patients recovering from surgery or experiencing serious medical conditions.
Beyond patient care, you’ll contribute to the daily operations and teaching mission of the hospital. This includes accurate medical documentation, supporting client communication and visitation, and helping maintain a safe and compliant ICU environment. Teaching and mentoring students, interns, and residents is also an important part of the role. Occasional work beyond scheduled hours may be necessary to meet the needs of the service.
To thrive in this fast‑paced setting, you’ll need strong teamwork, adaptability, clear communication, and excellent clinical judgment — especially under pressure. We’re looking for someone who values continuous learning, enjoys a collaborative environment, and is committed to compassionate, high‑quality patient care.
