The Parks and Recreation department is looking to fill multiple vacancies for the Gardener and Gardener*Sprinkler System. Gardeners are responsible for performing landscaping, maintenance, re-vegetation, and restoration for parks surrounding streets and highways. Additional duties include general park maintenance work such as litter patrol, raking and emptying trash receptacles, checking, and spraying plants for diseases and insect control, fertilizing plants, trees and grass, and maintaining urban lakes.
Gardeners who have the assignment of Sprinkler Systems are responsible for the same landscape maintenance requirements as well as maintaining an automated sprinkler system and providing expertise of irrigation maintenance, repair and installation. Typical duties include repairing or replacing sprinkler heads, valves, automatic timers, and solenoids. Other duties include troubleshooting automatic systems; repairing broken sprinkler lines; operating small trenching machines; and tracking down and repairing water leaks and faulty wiring. Positions require the incumbent to use electronic tracking devices.
