Job Summary
Range Precision Machining is seeking an experienced Part-Time Quality Inspector to inspect precision-machined components and support our ISO 9001 quality-management system.
This position is ideal for someone with CNC machining inspection experience who can independently read engineering drawings, perform dimensional inspections, document results, and communicate effectively with machinists and management.
The Quality Inspector will perform first-piece, in-process, and final inspections on prototype, short-run, and production components manufactured for customers in aerospace, defense, medical, industrial, and other precision-manufacturing markets.
Primary Responsibilities
- Perform first-piece, in-process, and final inspections of precision-machined components.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, tolerances, notes, and GD&T requirements.
- Inspect parts using micrometers, calipers, height gauges, bore gauges, thread gauges, pin gauges, surface plates, optical comparators, and other inspection equipment.
- Complete and maintain accurate inspection records.
- Verify material, dimensions, surface finishes, threads, and drawing requirements.
- Review completed parts and documentation before shipment.
- Identify and document nonconforming material or workmanship.
- Communicate inspection findings clearly to machinists, programmers, supervisors, and management.
- Assist with first-article inspections and inspection reports.
- Support corrective-action and root-cause investigations.
- Verify calibration status before using inspection equipment.
- Help maintain calibration records and coordinate calibration activities.
- Organize inspection tools, records, certifications, and quality documentation.
- Review material certifications, outside-processing certifications, and customer-required documentation.
- Assist with internal audits and other ISO 9001 quality-system activities.
- Follow company safety, quality, confidentiality, and document-control procedures.
Required Qualifications
- At least three years of quality-inspection or precision-machining experience.
- Ability to read and interpret complex mechanical drawings.
- Working knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
- Experience inspecting close-tolerance CNC-machined components.
- Proficiency with standard hand-measuring equipment.
- Ability to document inspection results accurately.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to communicate respectfully and professionally with production employees.
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word, and electronic recordkeeping.
- Ability to work independently and manage changing priorities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Five or more years of precision-machining inspection experience.
- Experience working in an ISO 9001 or AS9100 manufacturing environment.
- Experience with first-article inspection requirements, including AS9102 documentation.
- Experience inspecting CNC-milled and CNC-turned components.
- Familiarity with CMM operation or programming.
- Experience using optical-comparison or vision-inspection equipment.
- Knowledge of surface-finish requirements, plating, anodizing, heat treatment, and other outside processes.
- Experience working with aerospace, defense, medical, or government-contracting requirements.
- Familiarity with calibration systems, corrective actions, and internal audits.

Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, sit, and walk throughout the workday.
- Ability to visually inspect small features and detailed components.
- Ability to lift and move parts weighing up to 40 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Ability to safely work around CNC machines, cutting tools, metal chips, coolant, and normal manufacturing conditions.

Pay range is from $22 to 28 per hour deending on experience.
