About the Role
We're seeking a skilled Manual Machinist to expertly fabricate, modify, and operate industrial machine tools and parts to exacting specifications. In this role, you'll apply your deep knowledge of mechanics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures to maintain and develop critical components. Your proficiency with Vertical Turret Lathes and Manual Lathes will be essential to your success.
Responsibilities
- Set up and manually machine components and parts for diverse pump types within a custom job shop environment, ensuring precision and quality.
- Interpret intricate mechanical drawings, blueprints, and sketches to accurately determine optimal machining methods.
- Conduct precision metal cutting, grinding, shaping, and fitting using a variety of machinery, including horizontal boring mills, vertical boring mills, and ID/OD grinders.
- Utilize inspection equipment to meticulously check dimensions of critical components, translating measurements into numerical form for accurate machining.
- Maintain machine tools and equipment in optimal operational condition, ensuring peak performance and longevity.
- Collaborate with engineers, shop personnel, and fellow machinists to effectively troubleshoot problems and recommend innovative solutions.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of post-training experience as a machinist in an industrial facility, specializing in machining LARGE PARTS on manual machines.
- Proficiency in basic mathematics and its application within a shop setting.
- Strong attention to detail, ensuring precision and accuracy in all machining tasks.
- Completion of a technical or vocational training program related to machinery (Journeyman status preferred).
- Knowledge of geometry to accurately compute angles, radii, bolt circles, and other critical dimensions.
- Familiarity with feed rates and the effects of adjustments on machining processes.
- Demonstrated skill in setting up jigs, fixtures, arbors, mandrels, centers, and clamps for various machining operations.
- Proven ability to machine pump shafts of 3-10 ft while maintaining close tolerances of 0.0005 or less using steady rests.
