Primary Purpose:
Facilitates the LPAC Committee process, meeting district, state, and federal guidelines for students being considered for and participating in the
English as a Second Language Program.
Minimum Qualifications (Experience/Education/Certification):
Bachelor’s degree; valid Texas Teaching Certificate; 3 years ESL teaching experience.
Major Responsibilities:
1. Ensure the LPAC meetings are scheduled at mutually agreeable times with parents and campus personnel, giving notice through written and
oral communication.
2. Gather and disseminate all necessary data regarding an individual student, such as, English language proficiency levels, grades, academic
history, and other important information for LPAC meetings.
3. Facilitate LPAC meetings.
4. Complete necessary paperwork and facilitate LPAC to determine state assessment accommodations and decisions.
5. Monitor the academic achievement of students that have exited the ESL/Dual Language Program and are M1 or M2 status.
6. Supply the PEIMS clerk with necessary data upon completion of the LPAC meeting and paperwork.
7. Support instruction of English learners.
8. Assist parents and school personnel regarding ESL issues.
9. Train campus staff, and parents on the LPAC process.
10. Assist with Oral Language Proficiency and Achievement student testing.
11. Assist with the Texas Language Proficiency Assessment System (TELPAS) testing process.
12. Keep track of the academic achievement of parent denials and inform parents.
13. Ensure that there is an LPAC representative at every academic meeting of English Learners (i.e. ARD, Section 504).
14. Follow Educator Code of Conduct & all policies, procedures, laws and State/Federal regulations.
15. Perform other duties as assigned.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of all applicable federal, state, local laws, and guidelines and procedures
Knowledge of current research in bilingual/ESL instruction
Knowledge of other cultures
Bilingual/Biliterate Spanish/English recommended
Bilingual or ESL teaching experience required
Skill in communicating effectively with others
Skill in working with computer tools, including but not limited to, email, internet, word processing and spreadsheets
Skill in working in collaborative team-based environments
Supervisory Responsibilities:
None
Working Conditions (Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Demands):
Prolonged use of computer; work regularly requires work outside the normal work week; must be able to push, pull, lift, and/or carry at least 30 lbs;
frequent in-district travel.
