Job Title: Sous Chef
Position Summary
The Sous Chef supports the Kitchen Manager in overseeing daily kitchen operations for Kanak Attack's catering events and food truck service. This role plays a key part in food preparation, quality control, staff leadership, and event execution. The Sous Chef helps ensure food is prepared efficiently, consistently, and to the highest standards while maintaining a clean, organized, and positive kitchen environment.
The ideal candidate is dependable, organized, passionate about food, and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
Key Responsibilities
Food Preparation & Event Execution
- Assist with daily food production for catering events and food truck service
- Prepare and execute menu items according to recipes and company standards
- Ensure food quality, presentation, and portion consistency
- Follow prep lists and assist in coordinating production timelines
- Help ensure all food is completed on schedule for events and service
- Assist with loading, unloading, and event preparation as needed
- Adapt quickly to last-minute changes or additions to events
Leadership & Team Support
- Support and supervise kitchen staff during prep and service
- Assist with training new kitchen and food truck employees
- Help maintain recipe standards and kitchen procedures
- Lead by example through professionalism, teamwork, and strong work ethic
- Step into leadership responsibilities in the Kitchen Manager's absence
Food Safety & Organization
- Follow and enforce all food safety and sanitation procedures
- Ensure proper food handling, labeling, storage, and rotation
- Maintain cleanliness and organization throughout kitchen and prep areas
- Assist with maintaining compliance with health department regulations
Inventory & Kitchen Management
- Assist with inventory counts and stocking levels
- Help monitor ingredient usage and minimize waste
- Communicate inventory needs and shortages to management
- Assist with receiving and organizing deliveries
- Help maintain kitchen equipment and report maintenance concerns
Qualifications
- 2+ years of kitchen experience required
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred
- Catering experience preferred
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to multitask and perform under pressure
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Flexible schedule, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Ability to lift 50 lbs and stand for extended periods
- Food safety certification preferred (or willingness to obtain)
- Valid driver's license preferred
