Position Overview
Recovery Center of Maryland, LLC is seeking a compassionate, dedicated, and highly skilled Registered Nurse (RN) to join our multidisciplinary Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) Team. The Registered Nurse plays a critical role in supporting individuals with serious mental illness, co-occurring disorders, and complex behavioral health needs by providing comprehensive nursing care, medication management, health education, crisis intervention, and community-based support services.
The RN will work collaboratively with psychiatrists, therapists, case managers, peer support specialists, and other treatment team members to help individuals achieve recovery goals, maintain stability in the community, and improve overall health outcomes.
This position is ideal for a nursing professional who is passionate about behavioral health, psychiatric nursing, recovery-oriented care, and helping individuals live independently within their communities.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesNursing Services & Medication Management
- Manage and oversee the medication system in collaboration with the ACT Team Psychiatrist and multidisciplinary treatment team.
- Administer, monitor, document, and evaluate prescribed medications in accordance with physician orders and organizational policies.
- Maintain accurate Medication Administration Records (MARs) and ensure compliance with documentation standards.
- Evaluate and document medication effectiveness, side effects, adverse reactions, and treatment outcomes.
- Conduct medication education sessions with clients and family members when appropriate.
- Assist individuals in developing strategies to improve medication adherence and treatment engagement.
- Monitor compliance with medication protocols and psychiatric treatment plans.
Psychiatric Nursing & Clinical Care
- Conduct nursing assessments and ongoing health evaluations for individuals receiving ACT services.
- Assess physical health needs and coordinate medical care to support overall wellness and recovery.
- Monitor psychiatric symptoms, behavioral health conditions, and clinical status changes.
- Identify and address health concerns that may impact treatment outcomes and community functioning.
- Collaborate with psychiatrists and healthcare providers to ensure continuity of care.
- Assist with treatment planning and implementation of individualized recovery goals.
- Provide direct nursing interventions and clinical support as needed.
Community-Based Behavioral Health Services
- Deliver community-based nursing services in homes, shelters, hospitals, community settings, and other approved locations.
- Provide face-to-face therapeutic interventions designed to support recovery, stability, and independent living.
- Assist individuals in improving daily living skills, problem-solving abilities, communication skills, and community integration.
- Support individuals in achieving goals related to housing, employment, education, social relationships, and wellness.
- Participate in outreach activities and engagement efforts to maintain client involvement in treatment.
Health Promotion & Education
- Promote wellness, disease prevention, and healthy lifestyle practices.
- Educate individuals regarding medication management, chronic health conditions, psychiatric illnesses, and recovery principles.
- Provide guidance related to nutrition, self-care, stress management, and health maintenance.
- Support clients in accessing preventive healthcare services and community resources.
- Educate ACT Team members regarding psychiatric medications, symptom monitoring, and medication side effects.
Crisis Intervention & Stabilization
- Assess crisis situations involving behavioral health, psychiatric symptoms, and medical concerns.
- Provide immediate nursing interventions and crisis stabilization support when necessary.
- Participate in crisis response efforts and coordinate emergency services when appropriate.
- Assist clients in developing and implementing stabilization plans designed to reduce hospitalization and improve community functioning.
- Maintain awareness of safety concerns and risk factors affecting clients and staff.
Care Coordination & Collaboration
- Coordinate care with primary care physicians, psychiatrists, hospitals, specialists, pharmacies, and community providers.
- Serve as a liaison between clients, families, healthcare providers, and community resources.
- Participate in interdisciplinary treatment team meetings and case consultations.
- Support integrated care efforts that address both behavioral and physical healthcare needs.
- Assist with referrals and coordination of specialized medical and behavioral health services.
Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain timely, accurate, and complete clinical documentation in accordance with state, federal, accreditation, and organizational requirements.
- Complete assessments, progress notes, nursing documentation, medication records, and treatment updates.
- Assist with utilization review activities and program audits.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA, confidentiality standards, and organizational policies.
- Support quality assurance and continuous improvement initiatives.
Team Participation & Professional Development
- Function as an active member of the ACT multidisciplinary treatment team.
- Assist with onboarding, mentoring, and training of new employees.
- Participate in required ACT Team training programs and ongoing professional development activities.
- Maintain competency in psychiatric nursing, behavioral health treatment practices, and recovery-oriented care.

Required Qualifications
- Current and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Maryland.
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited nursing program.
- Minimum of two (2) years of nursing experience; behavioral health, psychiatric nursing, or community mental health experience preferred.
- Knowledge of psychotropic medications, psychiatric diagnoses, and medication management practices.
- Experience working with individuals diagnosed with serious mental illness, substance use disorders, or co-occurring conditions preferred.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required for community-based services.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- Previous experience working on an Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) Team.
- Certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse (PMH-BC) certification preferred.
- Experience in community mental health, substance use treatment, crisis intervention, or integrated healthcare settings.
- Experience utilizing Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong knowledge of psychiatric nursing principles and behavioral health treatment practices.
- Understanding of Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) principles and recovery-oriented care.
- Knowledge of adult psychopathology, psychiatric rehabilitation, crisis intervention, and community resources.
- Ability to assess behavioral health crises and implement stabilization interventions.
- Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and documentation abilities.
- Ability to establish trusting and professional relationships while maintaining appropriate boundaries.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to travel throughout Baltimore and surrounding service areas.
- Ability to conduct community visits in homes, hospitals, shelters, and community settings.
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 25 pounds as needed.
- Ability to respond effectively during emergency and crisis situations.
