Reporting directly to the Dean of Science and Business, the Coordinator of Science Labs supports and coordinates science, technology, and engineering initiatives across the College including the operations of the Berkshire Science Commons. The coordinator collaborates with faculty, lab staff, students, workforce development personnel, and external partners to support high-quality, equitable science learning environments.
In addition to coordination responsibilities, the coordinator contributes to the College's instructional mission by teaching two laboratory-based Environmental Science courses per academic year (maximum of 8 credits) and supporting high-quality laboratory instruction.
Essential Functions:
Coordinate the operations of the Berkshire Science Commons including oversight of budget, scheduling of usage, equipment maintenance, and maintaining a professional and welcoming environment.
Support faculty and community-driven research and initiatives, including coordination of interdisciplinary shared space use, equipment access, scheduling, and program logistics.
Collaborate with faculty, workforce development staff, and regional partners to develop and sustain Science, Technology, and Engineering pathways that connect K-12 outreach, postsecondary education, and workforce participation.
Support inclusive, equity-minded STEM programming with particular attention to individuals and communities who have historically lacked full access to STEM opportunities. Teach two laboratory-based Environmental Science courses per academic year, contributing to curriculum delivery, student engagement, and experiential learning in the sciences.
Assist with data collection, assessment, and reporting on student learning data as it relates to the science lab environments.
Coordinate programs, workshops, and events that connect science education to regional priorities and community interests.
Provide functional supervision of Technical Assistant II staff in laboratory settings ensuring the institution maintains safe, well-resourced, and pedagogically sound learning environments while respecting established governance structures and collective bargaining agreements.
Supports laboratory safety practices and environmental health and safety compliance efforts for science instructional spaces, in coordination with college policies and designated compliance offices. Perform other duties as assigned consistent with the MCCC Day Unit classification.
Job Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
Master's degree, preferably in Life Sciences, Education, or closely related field.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Previous supervisory experience,
Ability to support equity-minded pedagogical innovation that addresses the needs of a diverse student body.
Ability to manage multiple complex projects and initiatives.
Previous teaching experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience running and supporting advanced manufacturing equipment, eg: C&C Machines, 3D printers, Lasers, advanced microscopy & robotics.
Community college teaching preferred
Appreciation for community college mission.
Experience with Environmental and/or Laboratory Safety experience.
Experience with academic technologies, including a learning management system.
