Job Description: Animal Care Technician WITH On Call Animal Control Shifts

You will have an opportunity to directly care for animals and deal directly with the public while maintaining the commitment to the philosophies and policies of the Sauk County Humane Society and respects the dignity and basic rights of each animal.
Animal Care Responsibilities:
- Administer daily medications; monitor appetite and hydration of shelter animals;
- Restrain animals for medical procedures;
- Provide food in accordance with procedures;
- Move animals as needed;
- Assist in behavior modification and enrichment programs for animals;
- Assist with admitting exams on incoming animals and entering data into computer;
- Daily and spot cleaning of kennels, cages, litter boxes, dishes, laundry; assist with janitorial and other duties as needed.
Animal Control Responsibilities:
- Respond to animal calls in a timely manner;
- Pick up stray animals safely and humanely transporting them to the shelter;
- Pick up injured animals, giving necessary care and/or transport to a veterinarian if needed;
- Assist law enforcement officers with unruly animals, abandonment cases, protective custody animals and other cases.
- Individual must be able to work "on call" two nights/week and one-two weekends/month.
Environment:
Can be dirty and wet; exposure to unpleasant odors, loud noises and chemicals. Requires restraining, lifting, and carrying animals; exposure to pests; possibility of being bitten or scratched; requires standing for long periods, bending, squatting, reaching, heavy lifting.
Qualifications:
High School degree required, further education preferred; animal shelter experience highly preferred; licensed, or willing to become licensed, to perform humane euthanasia preferred; excellent communication, problem-solving, and basic computer skills; able to work independently and on teams; able to handle the physical and emotional work in an animal shelter, including the use of euthanasia. Must be able to handle a wide variety of animals including dogs, cats, small mammals, birds and wildlife in a safe and humane manner. Must possess a thorough understanding of and dedication to the philosophies of animal welfare and humane handling. Must possess a valid driver’s license, have a good driving record, and live within 15 minutes of the shelter.
You will be compensated with additional ON CALL pay for night/weekend shifts, plus compensation for each call you respond too.
