Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and dedicated Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) to join our clinical laboratory team. In this role, you will execute routine analytical testing on patient specimens, process incoming samples, monitor quality control, and perform routine maintenance on diagnostic instruments to support efficient clinical operations and high-quality patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnostic Testing: Perform moderate- to high-complexity analytical testing across clinical departments, primarily focusing on Chemistry, Hematology, and Immunoassay, with support in Molecular Microbiology testing as needed.
- Specimen Processing: Review, log, and process incoming patient specimens to ensure proper labeling, volume, and integrity prior to analytical testing.
- Quality Control: Evaluate and record daily Quality Control (QC) data, perform routine instrument calibrations, and notify senior staff or supervisors of out-of-range parameters following CAP and CLIA guidelines.
- Instrument Maintenance: Perform daily, weekly, and routine preventative maintenance on automated diagnostic platforms; assist with basic instrument troubleshooting when necessary.
- Result Reporting: Review data for precision, report analytical results through the Laboratory Information System (LIS), and promptly report critical values to clinical staff according to established policies.
- Compliance & Safety: Maintain strict adherence to laboratory safety protocols, biohazard handling, regulatory guidelines, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: Associate’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) or completion of an accredited Clinical Laboratory Technician program.
- Certification: Active certification as an MLT through ASCP, AMT, or AAB.
- Licensure: Valid Louisiana State Clinical Laboratory Personnel License (CLCLS).
Technical & Professional Skills:
- Clinical Diagnostic Knowledge: Solid foundational competency in Clinical Chemistry, Hematology, and Immunoassay procedures.
- Laboratory Technique: Proficiency in micro-pipetting, accurate reagent preparation, and specimen processing.
- Quality & Compliance: Practical understanding of clinical laboratory quality control principles, safety standards, and standard operating procedures.
- Instrumentation & Systems: Working knowledge of automated laboratory analyzers and Laboratory Information Systems (LIS).
- Attention to Detail: Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills for handling specimens and monitoring quality control parameters.
- Communication & Teamwork: Strong verbal and written communication skills to collaborate effectively within the laboratory team.
