POSITION SUMMARY
The Safe Passage Program is a collaborative initiative between Chicago Public Schools (CPS), the Chicago Police Department, and community organizations to enhance student safety along designated routes to and from school. The Safe Passage Program Coordinator oversees Base Operators and Community Watchers across all assigned school sites. This role is responsible for ensuring operational coverage, policy compliance, professionalism, and effective incident response while maintaining a safe and secure environment.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Monitor or supervise Base Operators and Community Watchers across multiple school sites.
- Build relationships with community residents, school administration & law enforcement officials; by increasing their awareness of the safe- passage program and engaging them whenever possible.
- Monitor employee performance and administer corrective action when necessary, including verbal and written warnings.
- Ensure proper staffing coverage at all assigned school locations.
- Provide site coverage and substitute for Base Operators or Community Watchers as needed, including short-notice assignments.
- Observe, document, and report incidents, safety concerns, and policy violations.
- Promote professionalism, accountability, and teamwork among staff members.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be available to work split shift (7AM – 9AM and 2PM – 4PM)
- Must be able to stand for periods of time, and work in extreme (outdoor) weather conditions.
- Must have excellent communication and organizational skills and ability to follow/implement oral/written instructions.
- Must have ability to work in a variety of settings with culturally diverse families and communities and have the ability to be culturally sensitive and appropriate.
- Must have ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with co-workers, students, school administration, law enforcement community.
- Bilingual abilities are a plus but not required.
- Valid Driver license and reliable vehicle required
COMPENSATION
- $20 per hour; 20 hours per week; split shift
- Work schedule follows Chicago Public School schedule
