Duties
- Conduct thorough ophthalmic patient examinations, including visual acuity testing, tonometry, and assessment of vital signs to evaluate eye health.
- Utilize ophthalmic diagnostic imaging equipment to identify and diagnose eye diseases such as glaucoma, cataracts, and retinal conditions.
- Perform contact lens fittings and provide patient education on lens care, usage, and maintenance.
- Manage disease states related to ocular health by developing treatment plans, prescribing medications, and monitoring progress in accordance with healthcare standards.
- Operate medical equipment safely and effectively while maintaining aseptic techniques to ensure patient safety.
- Document all patient interactions accurately within Electronic Medical Records (EMR) or Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems while adhering to HIPAA regulations for patient privacy.
- Communicate clearly with patients about diagnoses, treatment options, and preventive eye care strategies to enhance client understanding and satisfaction.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals for comprehensive patient management and refer complex cases when necessary.
- Stay current with advancements in ophthalmology, optometry practices, and medical coding to ensure high-quality care delivery.
Qualifications
- Valid state licensure as an Optometrist with appropriate certifications for ophthalmic practice.
- Proven experience in ophthalmology or optometry, including optical experience and pediatrics is highly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of physiology, anatomy, medical terminology, and disease management related to eye health.
- Proficiency in operating ophthalmic diagnostic imaging equipment, tonometry devices, and other medical instruments used in eye examinations.
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems for accurate record-keeping and documentation.
- Excellent client communication skills with a focus on customer service and patient education.
- Ability to perform detailed ophthalmic diagnostics, including ophthalmic consultations and disease state management.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations to ensure confidentiality of medical records and patient information.
- Competence in medical coding related to optometric services for billing purposes.
