Forklift Operator

Reports to: Site General Manager / Operations Supervisor
Position Summary
The Forklift Operator supports EQI’s operations by safely and efficiently moving materials throughout the facility to ensure continuous production flow and timely shipment of finished goods. This role plays a critical part in maintaining productivity, inventory accuracy, and workplace safety.
The Forklift Operator works closely with Production, Warehouse, Shipping/Receiving, and Quality teams to meet operational goals. Success in this role requires strong attention to detail, adherence to safety standards, and the ability to operate material handling equipment effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Essential Functions
Material Handling & Operations
- Safely load, unload, move, and stack raw materials, work-in-process, and finished goods
- Transport materials between storage areas, production lines, and shipping/receiving docks
- Stage materials to ensure uninterrupted production flow
- Build and prepare loads for shipments, including flatbeds and dry vans
- Band, label, and secure finished goods for shipment
- Support production schedules by supplying materials to Line 1 and other operational areas
Inventory & Systems
- Use scanners and WMS (NetSuite) to receive, track, and ship materials
- Verify material quantities, part numbers, and condition against documentation
- Accurately label, tag, and store materials in designated locations and bins
Equipment Operation
- Safely operate forklifts and other material handling equipment (pallet jacks, carts, etc.)
- Perform daily equipment inspections and report any maintenance or safety concerns
- Maintain forklifts in safe operating condition
Quality & Accuracy
- Inspect materials for visible defects or damage
- Report discrepancies, shortages, or quality concerns to supervisors
- Handle all materials carefully to prevent damage or loss
- Follow all quality standards and documentation requirements
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and procedures
- Properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work environment (5S standards)
- Participate in safety meetings, audits, and training as required
Warehouse & Production Support
- Load and unload production lines and blasting areas
- Remove scrap, excess materials, and finished goods from work areas
- Perform general housekeeping and cleaning duties to maintain safe workspaces
- Assist with cycle counts and inventory audits as needed
Relationship Management & Teamwork
- Develop strong working relationships with team members across operations
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and coworkers regarding production needs
- Follow verbal and written instructions accurately
- Provide input for continuous improvement in safety and operational processes
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Minimum one (1) year of forklift operating experience in a manufacturing or warehouse environment
- Proven ability to safely operate forklifts on a daily basis
- Basic math skills and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety
- Knowledge of safe material handling and production operations
- Familiarity with warehouse management systems (NetSuite preferred)
- Basic mechanical aptitude
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and punctuality
- Ability to follow procedures and work independently or as part of a team
- Good communication and problem-solving skills
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 40–50 pounds, with or without assistance
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and reach for extended periods during shifts
