Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Settlement Negotiator to join our growing pre-litigation team at a fast-paced plaintiff personal injury law firm in Westwood, California. This position is responsible for negotiating settlements, maximizing case value, managing a high-volume caseload, and providing exceptional client service throughout the pre-litigation process.
The ideal candidate has plaintiff-side personal injury experience, exceptional negotiation skills, and a proven track record of obtaining favorable settlements while maintaining efficiency, professionalism, and attention to detail.
This is a full-time, in-house position at our Westwood headquarters.
Key Responsibilities
Settlement Negotiations
- Negotiate settlements for bodily injury, motor vehicle accident, premises liability, wrongful death, and other personal injury matters.
- Review liability, damages, medical records, treatment summaries, and supporting documentation to develop effective settlement strategies.
- Evaluate case value and prepare settlement recommendations.
- Handle complex and high-value claims while working to maximize recovery for clients.
- Collaborate on settlement strategy and litigation readiness when appropriate.
Case Management
- Manage a high-volume pre-litigation caseload from demand through settlement.
- Prepare, review, and submit demand packages that are accurate, complete, and strategically positioned.
- Maintain regular communication with clients, insurance adjusters, medical providers, and attorneys.
- Identify and address case delays, barriers, and opportunities to move cases toward timely resolution.
- Maintain accurate and timely case notes and documentation in the firm's case management system.
Client Service
- Deliver exceptional client service through consistent communication and timely case updates.
- Educate clients regarding the settlement process and manage expectations throughout their case.
- Respond promptly to client questions and concerns while maintaining a high level of professionalism.
Compliance & Administration
- Ensure compliance with firm policies, ethical standards, and applicable California laws.
- Assist with lien resolution and settlement documentation as needed.
- Maintain accurate records and meet departmental productivity and performance goals.
Qualifications & Experience
- 3+ years of plaintiff personal injury experience with a strong emphasis on settlement negotiations.
- Strong knowledge of California personal injury claims and insurance practices.
- Demonstrated success negotiating favorable settlements in a high-volume environment.
- Experience evaluating medical records, treatment plans, liens, liability, and damages.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Proficiency with personal injury case management software and CRM systems.
- Bilingual English/Spanish is preferred but not required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience negotiating directly with insurance adjusters.
- Knowledge of medical billing, health insurance liens, and subrogation.
- Ability to independently evaluate case value and develop negotiation strategies.
