STAFF OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
1. Reports to Director of Rehabilitation for administrative and patient care responsibilities.
May work under a lead therapist.
2. Supervises C.O.T.A.’s, Therapy Aides and assists nursing with training of Restorative
Assistants.
3. Coordinates with members of other departments, committee members and other staff
within the Occupational Therapy Department.
JOB SUMMARY
The staff Occupational Therapist evaluates and treats patients, communicates with families,
physicians and other health team members and maintains documentation of services in the
medical records. Conducts inservice and training for facility staff on an ongoing basis in
restorative and maintenance techniques.
DUTIES
1. Evaluates patients within forty-eight (48) hours of physician referral.
2. Develop effective treatment plans and obtains approval for services from referring
physician.
3. Treat patients according to the physician’s treatment plan.
4. Supervise Occupational Therapy Assistants and Therapy Aides in direct patient care and
patient related activities and adhere to facility Supervision Policy and Procedure.
5. Communicate with supervisor and other health team members regarding patient progress,
problems and plans.
6. Participate in Patient Care Conference, Utilization Review Meeting and Rehabilitation
Conferences.
7. Participate in in-service training program for other staff in the facility.
8. Record evaluations, daily treatment notes as necessary, weekly progress notes, forms per
facility policy and procedure.
9. Record treatment charges daily per facility policy and procedures.
10. Instruct patient’s families or nursing staff in care giver maintenance program.
11. Participate in discharge planning.
12. Coordinate necessary durable medical equipment and adaptive equipment for patients to
facilitate independence in ADL’s.
13. Report any problems with department equipment so that it is maintained in good working
order.
14. Act as a clinical preceptor for affiliating Occupational Therapy or Occupational Therapy
Assistant Schools.
15. Comply with Occupational Therapy Practice Act and the facility Policy and Procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Current National Registration and State License.
2. Focused in geriatric rehabilitation.
Pay: $50.00 - $65.00 per hour
