Southern Winds Hospital, a well-established inpatient psychiatric facility with over 25 years of experience serving the community, is seeking dedicated and compassionate individuals to join our team as Per Diem Mental/Behavioral Health Technicians.
As an MHT/BHT, you will work directly with patients in an inpatient psychiatric setting, including individuals receiving voluntary and involuntary treatment under the Baker Act. You will work alongside nursing staff and the interdisciplinary treatment team to promote patient safety, stabilization, and well-being.
Schedule: Per Diem / Flexible Scheduling
Availability Needed: Various shifts, with a particular need for nights and weekends.
In This Role, You Will:
- Provide direct patient care, supervision, and emotional support.
- Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs), including hygiene, grooming, nourishment, and other personal care needs.
- Observe patients and promptly communicate changes in behavior, mood, mental status, or condition to nursing staff.
- Conduct patient safety observations and rounds as assigned.
- Help maintain a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment.
- Utilize appropriate communication and de-escalation techniques when assisting patients experiencing behavioral or emotional distress.
- Assist with patient admissions, discharges, transfers, and transportation throughout the facility as needed.
- Encourage patient participation in therapeutic activities and established treatment goals.
- Participate in the implementation and evaluation of individualized treatment plans as appropriate to the role.
- Work collaboratively with nurses and other members of the interdisciplinary treatment team.
- Maintain patient confidentiality, professional boundaries, and compliance with hospital policies and procedures.
What You’ll Bring:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
- A compassionate and professional approach to patient care.
- Genuine interest in behavioral and mental health care.
- Ability to remain calm and professional in a fast-paced psychiatric environment.
- Willingness to learn and grow within an inpatient behavioral health setting.
- Educational background or training in healthcare preferred, but not required.
- Previous experience with psychiatric, behavioral health, or geriatric populations preferred, but not required.
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification preferred, but not required.
- Ability to meet all applicable hospital pre-employment, background screening, health, and training requirements.
