OSR First Class Pre-K Lead Teacher
Position Summary
The First Class Pre-K Lead Teacher is responsible for planning and implementing a high-quality preschool program that promotes the cognitive, physical, social-emotional, language, and creative development of four-year-old children. The Lead Teacher ensures compliance with Alabama First Class Pre-K guidelines while creating a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment.
Education Requirements, must possess one of the following degrees:
- Early Childhood Education degree (B.S., B.A., or M.A./M.S.)
- Human Environmental Sciences degree with a concentration in Early Childhood Development or Child Development
- Special Education degree in Early Childhood with a minimum of 18 credit hours in early childhood/child development coursework
- Elementary Education degree with a minimum of 18 hours in early childhood/child development coursework.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan and implement developmentally appropriate instruction aligned with the Alabama Standards for Early Learning and Development (ASELD).
- Prepare weekly lesson plans, classroom schedules, and learning centers that meet First Class Pre-K requirements.
- Foster children’s development in all learning domains through purposeful play and intentional teaching.
- Conduct ongoing child assessments using required assessment tools and use data to guide instruction.
- Maintain a classroom environment that meets First Class Pre-K quality standards.
- Supervise and mentor the classroom auxiliary teacher.
- Build positive relationships with families through regular communication, conferences, and family engagement activities.
- Maintain accurate attendance, assessment, health, and program documentation.
- Ensure compliance with licensing regulations, First Class Pre-K standards, and health and safety procedures.
- Participate in required professional development, coaching visits, and classroom observations.
- Collaborate with administrators, specialists, and other teachers to support children’s individual needs.
- Model professionalism, confidentiality, and ethical conduct at all times.
- The hours are 6:30-3:30pm and 187 days, following the Madison City School calendar.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong knowledge of child development and early childhood best practices.
- Understanding of developmentally appropriate practices (DAP).
- Excellent classroom management skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication.
- Ability to work collaboratively with families and colleagues.
- Strong organizational and documentation skills.
- Proficiency with educational technology and required assessment systems.
Physical Requirements
- Frequently sit, stand, bend, kneel, and lift up to 40 pounds.
- Supervise children indoors and outdoors.
- Respond quickly to children’s health and safety needs.
Performance Expectations
The Lead Teacher is expected to:
- Maintain compliance with all Alabama First Class Pre-K and licensing standards.
- Participate in required coaching, monitoring visits, and professional learning.
- Demonstrate continuous professional growth.
