Job Title: School Social Worker
Reports To: Building Principal and Director of Special Education
Salary Range: $47,000.00 - $61,750.00
FLSA Status: Exempt
Terms of Employment: School Year

Summary: The ideal candidate must provide problem solving service to children and their families.
Serves as a member of diagnostic teams and members of educational planning and placement
committees and provides sociological assessment information. The social worker must feel
comfortable and eager to work collaboratively and side by side with staff in the blended classrooms.

Qualification Requirements:

Education: Master’s Degree (MSW) or Higher in Social Work
License: Professional Educator Licensure (PEL) with a School Social Work Endorsement
Experience: Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with others, demonstrate

self-discipline and initiative. Follow state and district guidelines.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able
to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the

Responsibilities include but are not exclusive to the following tasks.

Providing IEP minutes to students with disabilities.
Provide support in the Preschool for All Classrooms to all students during center activities

using the Creative Curriculum program. (Knowledge of Creative Curriculum is not
mandatory)

Creating and updating IEPs for students with disabilities.
Attend weekly IEP meetings.
Attend a weekly PLC meeting.
Collaborate with administrators, general and special education teachers regarding students in

need of extra supports.

Evaluate early intervention students using play-based assessments along with staff in other

disciplines. (Knowledge of providing play-based assessments is not mandatory, as training
can be provided.

Evaluate preschool students using observational and performance-based data.
Re-evaluate all preschool students with a current disability.
Serves as a liaison between schools, families, and community agencies.
Provide individual and group counseling to students regarding anxiety, grief, anger

management, and social skills.

Act as a first responder for mental health crises, threats of suicide, or school-wide

emergencies.

Conduct social-emotional assessments, functional behavioral assessments (FBAs), and

contribute to Individualized Education Program (IEP) teams.

Advocate for student needs, and coordinate with outside community agencies for services.
Consult with teachers, administrators, and parents regarding behavioral strategies, classroom

support, and policy development.

Address truancy and develop strategies to improve student engagement and attendance.
Organizes and/or participates in in-service training programs.
Maintains necessary records and reports such as case reports, social work IEP’s, and weekly

activity reports.

Maintains up-to-date knowledge of Illinois and federal legislation and regulations affecting

children in both school and community environments.

Practices professional renewal through a variety of means such as attending regional,

national, or local conferences and participating in professional school social work
organizations.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions set forth in
the Bellwood Education Association Collective Bargaining Agreement and Board of Education.
