Duties
- Enforce local laws, traffic regulations, and ordinances through patrols, citations, and arrests.
- Respond promptly to emergency calls, accidents, and incidents requiring immediate law enforcement intervention.
- Conduct criminal investigations by gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses, and documenting findings through detailed report writing.
- Perform surveillance activities to monitor suspicious behavior and prevent criminal activity.
- Execute arrest procedures safely and lawfully while ensuring proper use of force protocols are followed.
- Manage traffic stops, direct traffic flow, and handle vehicle pursuits using standard passenger car operation skills.
- Provide first aid assistance in emergencies by applying CPR and first aid protocols when necessary.
- Maintain accurate records of incidents, arrests, and investigations in compliance with procedural law and evidence law.
- Engage in community policing efforts to build trust and foster positive relationships with residents.
- Handle evidence with care according to evidence law standards and ensure secure storage until disposition.
- Participate in ongoing training on firearms handling, use of force training, search and seizure law, criminal procedure, and conflict management.
- Assist in animal handling when required during patrols or investigations involving domestic or stray animals.
- Support loss prevention initiatives and security measures within the jurisdiction as needed.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of criminal law experience including criminal investigation techniques and arrest procedures.
- Proficiency in report writing with attention to detail for legal documentation.
- Excellent physical conditioning to perform patrol duties, pursue suspects, or respond swiftly to emergencies.
- Skilled in the operation of standard passenger cars for patrols and pursuits under various conditions.
- Familiarity with firearms handling specific to law enforcement standards for safety and accuracy.
- Understanding of procedural law including search and seizure laws, evidence collection procedures, and local ordinances.
- Ability to manage conflicts effectively using conflict management strategies and use of force training.
- Knowledge of traffic laws for enforcement during routine patrols or accident investigations.
- Experience with surveillance techniques for crime prevention or investigation purposes.
- Capable of providing first aid following established protocols such as CPR or basic life support measures.
- Awareness of immigration law as it pertains to enforcement activities involving non-citizens when applicable.
- Competence in animal care during investigations involving animals or stray animals encountered on duty.
