Responsibilities
- Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing instruments and ensuring all dental equipment is ready for procedures in accordance with dental sterilization procedures and infection control policies.
- Assist dentists during a variety of treatments including restorative, endodontics, prosthodontics, oral surgery, and pediatric dentistry, practicing four-handed dentistry for efficiency.
- Take and develop dental x-rays and 3D scans using advanced medical imaging technology while adhering to HIPAA regulations to protect patient privacy.
- Record detailed medical documentation and update electronic health records (EMR systems such as Eaglesoft, Dentrix, Epic) accurately and efficiently.
- Perform chairside assisting by managing dental instruments, maintaining aseptic techniques, and supporting patient comfort throughout procedures.
- Conduct vital signs assessments and review medical histories to ensure patient safety prior to treatment.
- Educate patients on oral hygiene practices, post-treatment care, and preventive measures while demonstrating excellent communication skills.
- Manage dental instrument processing including sterilization procedures and inventory management to ensure compliance with infection prevention standards.
- Support the dental receptionist by scheduling appointments, verifying insurance information, and managing patient flow seamlessly.
- Uphold clinical confidentiality policies while maintaining a professional demeanor in all interactions with patients and team members.
Experience
- Proven experience working in a dental clinic environment with familiarity in general dentistry, pediatric dentistry, prosthodontics, or oral surgery preferred.
- Hands-on experience with dental x-ray techniques, medical imaging tools including 3D scanners, and dental instrument processing is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, medical terminology, and healthcare infection prevention practices.
- Proficiency with EMR systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix; experience with Epic is a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to perform dental assisting duties including four-handed dentistry and chairside support efficiently.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations related to medical records management and medical coding practices for accurate documentation.
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail in maintaining sterilization protocols and clinical records.
- Ability to communicate effectively with diverse patient populations including pediatrics while demonstrating empathy and professionalism.
