Job Summary
The Installation Technician is responsible for the installation, wiring, and startup of fire alarm, fire suppression, and/or electronic security systems at commercial and industrial job sites. This role works from blueprints and system designs to install devices, panels, conduit, and wiring in accordance with NFPA codes, manufacturer specifications, and local AHJ (Authority Having Jurisdiction) requirements, ensuring every installation is completed safely, on schedule, and to AFPS's quality standards.
Duties
- Install fire alarm, fire suppression, and/or security system components, including control panels, initiating and notification devices, conduit, and low-voltage wiring, per approved plans and specifications.
- Read and interpret blueprints, riser diagrams, and system layouts to determine device placement, wire routing, and equipment mounting.
- Terminate wiring and program basic system settings under the direction of a lead technician or systems technician.
- Mount and secure panels, devices, cabling, and related hardware in accordance with NFPA 72, local codes, and manufacturer guidelines.
- Coordinate on-site with project managers, general contractors, electricians, and other trades to maintain installation schedules.
- Conduct basic testing of installed devices and systems to confirm proper function prior to inspection or turnover.
- Maintain accurate installation records, redlines, and as-built documentation for each project.
- Transport, organize, and maintain tools, equipment, and company vehicles; track material usage and report shortages.
- Follow all safety protocols, wear required PPE, and comply with OSHA and site-specific safety requirements.
- Provide courteous, professional representation of AFPS when interacting with client personnel and site staff.
- Support senior technicians during system inspections, troubleshooting, and final acceptance testing as needed.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in construction or remodeling projects with knowledge of building material installation
- Strong proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, ladders, and measuring devices like tape measures
- Experience with tile masonry, gutter installation, carpentry, plumbing, electrical work or related fields is highly desirable
- Familiarity with Bluebeam software for digital plan review is a plus
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and follow blueprint specifications accurately
- Excellent customer service skills with a professional attitude on-site
- Knowledge of construction management principles, estimating techniques, and site safety protocols
- Construction site experience including framing, drywall installation, plastering or stucco work preferred
