About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Internal Auditor to lead the execution of internal audit projects as part of the total internal audit plan. The role includes performing process risk assessments, developing testing plans, assigning and reviewing audit tasks for staff auditors, and coaching staff auditors throughout each engagement. The Senior Internal Auditor is personally involved in documenting and testing processes and controls and communicates the results of work performed, both verbally and in writing. Work performed spans financial, operational and information system processes.

Education and Experience
· Bachelor’s degree or comparable work experience.
· Candidates should possess a minimum of four years of relevant experience in an audit, risk, or compliance role, whether through direct employment or consulting. This should include experience in staff development or supervisory roles. Experience in the insurance industry is a plus.
Required Skills and Abilities
· Certification in good standing in a relevant specialty (e.g., CIA, CPA, CFE, CPCU or other relevant insurance specialty).
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of products.
· Experience with Tableau, Microsoft Visio, and/or other analysis, process mapping or data analytics tools is a plus.
· Ability to validate data sets to ensure completeness, accuracy, and fit for purpose prior to use in analysis or reporting.
· Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to present information clearly and professionally in person and in virtual/remote settings (e.g., video conferencing, phone).
· Strong working knowledge of internal control concepts (e.g., COSO framework) and demonstrated experience consistently applying them to evaluate and improve business processes.
· Ability to work independently and communicate project status effectively.
· Strong critical thinking skills to evaluate the effectiveness of controls based on the results of audit procedures, scope of review and understanding of business processes.
Location & Commitments
· Position is located in Raleigh, NC and applicant must live in North Carolina.
· Hybrid work from home policy.
· Ability to travel, including occasional overnight stays, within North Carolina. Travel is currently estimated at less than 10%.
Responsibilities of the Role
1) Leadership & Staff Development:
a) Assist in the development and supervision of staff auditors.
b) Assign and review audit tasks and coach staff auditors throughout each engagement.
c) Strengthen knowledge of business processes, internal control concepts, audit techniques and the standards of internal audit.
2) Risk Assessment & Audit Planning:
a) Assist with maintenance of the company-wide risk assessment.
b) Assist in obtaining information necessary to develop audit scope and audit procedures.
c) Develop and document the audit program.
3) Audit Execution:
a) Perform process risk assessments and develop testing plans.
b) Personally document and test processes and controls as part of audit fieldwork.
c) Demonstrate critical thinking by evaluating the effectiveness of controls based on the results of audit procedures, scope of review and understanding of business processes.
d) Cover financial, operational and information system processes.
4) Data Analysis:
a) Ability to identify the data needed to address audit objectives, determine when full population testing versus sampling is appropriate, and define the appropriate scope of data analysis.
b) Perform analytical analysis of data using Tableau, AQT or similar software to support audit objectives.
5) Reporting:
a) Communicate with audit clients to confirm and share results of audit procedures throughout the course of each review or project.
b) Draft formal written communications detailing the results of work performed.
c) Communicate results of work performed, both verbally and in writing.
6) Build and sustain relationships with business units by listening to their needs, proposing effective solutions and communicating in a timely and efficiently manner.
7) Assist in special projects focused on compliance, fraud investigations, business continuity, general process consulting and other areas as directed.
8) Follow department policies and procedures and complete administrative tasks correctly and on time.
