The York School Department is seeking a highly organized, proactive, and communicative Transportation Coordinator.As the central hub for all student transit operations, you will serve as the primary liaison between our schools, student families, and transit partners. You will oversee both our external bus contract and our in-house fleet operations to ensure every student is transported safely, efficiently, and on time.Key ResponsibilitiesExternal Partnership ManagementContract Compliance: Act as the primary point of contact for external transportation partners to ensure service quality, accountability, and adherence to district policies.Route Optimization: Collaborate with external partners on route planning, timing, and efficiency using modern routing software.Real-Time Communication: Ensure daily route status (delays, timing, bus locations) is communicated effectively and in real time to parents.Problem Solving: Promptly resolve daily operational challenges such as delayed routes, mechanical breakdowns, or driver shortages.Safety Coordination: Work with school principals, town officials, and State of Maine agencies on emergency protocols and routing amendments.In-House Fleet Operations & LeadershipTeam Supervision: Lead, schedule, and support a team of nine (9) full- and part-time van drivers and one (1) part-time assistant for year-round programming.Hiring & Training: Manage the recruitment, hiring, and onboarding of replacement and substitute drivers. Ensure all drivers maintain proper certifications and training.Fleet Management: Oversee the scheduling, maintenance, and dispatching of the districts internal fleet (SUVs and vans) using Verizon Connect software.Specialized Logistics: Coordinate specialized transport for out-of-district programs, field trips, and athletic events in coordination with Athletic Directors and teachers.Communication & AdministrationCommunity Relations: Address parent concerns and inquiries with a high degree of professionalism and a solutions-oriented approach.Digital Communication: Maintain the transportation section of the district website and manage mass-notification systems (email, SMS, app alerts).Compliance & Records: Maintain accurate logs (mileage, fuel, student rosters) and ensure all operations strictly adhere to local, state, and federal safety regulations.Qualifications & Skills Required: High School diploma or equivalent.Valid State of Maine Criminal History Records Check (CHRC) approval.Minimum of three (3) years of transportation or dispatching experience (school transportation experience preferred).Exceptional composure; ability to remain calm and execute established procedures during stressful or fast-moving situations.Strong geographic knowledge of York and the surrounding areas.Proficiency with industry-standard computer software, routing applications, and databases.Must pass a DOT-regulated Drug and Alcohol history check.
