The nurse will provide direct care, administer first aid, manage chronic conditions, and support students' physical and emotional health. This role involves active collaboration with students, parents, faculty, and administration to develop and implement health plans, address medical concerns, and contribute to a safe and supportive school environment. The ideal candidate will stay current with best practices in school nursing, participate in student and parent meetings, and work closely with multiple departments to ensure a holistic approach to student health and success.QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelors degree in nursing from an accredited college/universityCurrent MA license to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN)Possession of MA DESE School Nurse license, all levelsCurrent certifications in CPR, First Aid, and AED Knowledge of FERPA and HIPAA regulationsExperience as a registered nurseExperience working with school-aged children preferredStrong communication and organizational skillsGENERAL DUTIES (include, but not limited to): Provide medically prescribed interventions, including medication administration (based on state regulations) and nursing procedures, and provide nursing care to chronically ill children on a daily basis.Provide consultation on school health issues, both clinical and management, to parents, students, school administrators, school nurses, school physicians, local boards of health, health educators, teachers, counselors, municipal agents, health care providers, etc.Maintain comprehensive school health records, including electronic health records.Conduct and/or oversee the mandated screening programs consistent with Massachusetts General Law.
Under M.G.L.c.71 s.57, these include Body Mass Index (BMI), vision, hearing, and postural screenings.Communicate with parents/guardians and staff regarding the health needs/concerns of students.Participate in home visits to assess the childs health status as needed.Provide preventive health services to students, including health education, consultation, and referrals.Provide nursing assessments and Individual Healthcare Plans for students needing health and nursing interventions.Collaborate with the Massachusetts Immunization and Epidemiology Programs to ensure infection control in the schools and promote and assist in the control of communicable diseases through immunization compliance, early detection, and reporting of contagious diseases.Provide ongoing assistance in policy development and establish standards and reports for school health service programs in collaboration with the MDPH, MDESE, and other state agencies.Participate as the Health Specialist on a students TEAM to develop the health portion of the IEP and 504 plans, as required.Participate as a resource person in the development of procedures for disaster preparedness planning and crisis management intervention.Coordinate school health activities and serve as the liaison between the home, school, and the communityPrepare the budget for school health supplies.Serve as a mentor for nursing students engaging in college/university internships.Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.Participate in all required district and school meetings and professional development to remain current in nursing practices and health care management.Maintain appropriate DESE and nursing licensures.Perform other professional duties that the Building Principal or Director of Special Education may require.Provide nursing support/ coverage for the other school clinics within the district, as well as field trips, as needed.REPORTS TO: Building Principal and Director of Special EducationSALARY: In accordance with the teachers contract.WORK YEAR: School Year as approved by the Millbury School Calendar and Millbury Teachers Association.LETTER OF APPLICATION: A cover letter, resume, copy of college transcripts, copy of licensure, and three letters of reference should be sent to: Christopher Lowe, PrincipalMillbury Jr./Sr. High School12 Martin StreetMillbury, MA 01527(**Applications not submitted through SchoolSpring will not be processed.**)
