Position Summary
The League School and Joan Fenichel Therapeutic Nursery- Day Treatment Programs seek a compassionate Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) to provide psychiatric assessment, medication management, and consultation services for children and adolescents with complex behavioral, emotional, and developmental needs, and Psychiatric Disorders including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
The PMHNP will work as part of a multidisciplinary team that includes psychiatrist, nursing staff, psychologists, social workers, speech therapists, occupational therapists, and special educators. The practitioner will play a key role in supporting students with significant behavioral challenges, aggression, self-injurious behavior, anxiety disorders, ADHD, mood disorders, trauma-related disorders, and other co-occurring psychiatric conditions, as well as supporting families.
Responsibilities
Clinical Care
· Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations.
· Diagnose psychiatric disorders utilizing DSM-5-TR criteria.
· Provide ongoing psychopharmacologic treatment and medication management.
· Monitor medication effectiveness, side effects, and laboratory results.
· Develop individualized treatment plans in collaboration with families and treatment teams.
· Provide crisis intervention and behavioral stabilization recommendations.
· Assess safety risks including aggression, self-injurious behavior, elopement, and suicidality when applicable.
· Participate in treatment planning meetings and multidisciplinary case conferences.
Collaboration
· Collaborate closely with clinical, educational, and behavior support staff regarding classroom functioning and behavioral interventions.
· Consult with parents and guardians regarding treatment recommendations.
· Coordinate care with pediatricians, neurologists, developmental pediatricians, therapists, and outside psychiatric providers.
· Support staff and families in understanding psychiatric symptoms and medication-related issues affecting student functioning.
Documentation
· Complete psychiatric evaluations, progress notes, treatment plans, and medication consent documentation.
· Maintain compliance with New York State OMH, NYSED, Medicaid, and regulatory requirements.
· Participate in quality improvement and clinical program development initiatives.
Qualifications
Required
· Current New York State Nurse Practitioner license.
· Board Certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC).
· DEA registration and New York State controlled substance registration.
· Experience treating children and adolescents.
· Experience prescribing psychotropic medications.
· Strong knowledge of Autism Spectrum Disorder and developmental disabilities.
Preferred
· 3+ years of child and adolescent psychiatric experience.
· Experience in special education, day treatment, residential treatment, or developmental disability settings.
· Experience managing:
· Autism Spectrum Disorder

· Aggression and severe irritability
· Trauma-related disorders

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a child-focused PMHNP with experience working with neurodivergent youth, enjoys interdisciplinary collaboration and is comfortable treating complex psychiatric presentations within a therapeutic educational milieu setting, as well as evaluating/diagnosing of preschoolers and providing psycho-education to families. The practitioner should be able to balance evidence-based medication management with a strong understanding of behavioral and developmental interventions for children with autism and other psychiatric disorders.
Reports To: Medical Director, Day Treatment Program
Compensation
· Competitive hourly rate: $100 - $110 per hour, commensurate with experience.
· Opportunity for additional consultation hours.
· Administrative support provided.
