The Assistant Unit Director (AUD) supports the daily operations of the Club site and works alongside the Unit Director to ensure safe, high-quality programs aligned with the Boys & Girls Club mission and the Youth Development Strategy. This role includes direct program delivery, administrative support, and assisting in supervision of staff and members. The AUD plays a key role in promoting a positive Club environment where all youth feel physically and emotionally safe, respected, and engaged.
Leadership & Program Oversight
- Assist in planning, implementing, and evaluating a wide range of youth development programs across core areas: Academic Success, Good Character & Citizenship, and Healthy Lifestyles.
- Support program staff in providing engaging, high-impact programming that reflects the Club’s mission and prioritizes youth voice, equity, and inclusivity.
- Promote and model positive youth development, ensuring members are supported in achieving positive outcomes socially, emotionally, and academically.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to youth, encouraging appropriate decision-making and supporting individual growth.
- Help foster an environment that ensures physical and emotional safety for all Club members.
- Maintain visibility and active supervision during program hours to ensure positive behavior management and safety practices.
- Support daily operations of the facility, including cleanliness, organization, and equipment maintenance.
Administrative & Operational Support
- Assist in maintaining accurate program and attendance records, including grant reporting, rosters, and evaluation data.
- Support Unit Director in recruitment, onboarding, and training of staff and volunteers; provide feedback and promote professional growth.
- When necessary, serve as site lead in the absence of the Unit Director, supervising staff and Club operations.
- Communicate with families, schools, and community partners to support youth needs and program alignment.
- Ensure compliance with organizational policies, licensing regulations, and Boys & Girls Clubs standards.
Community Engagement & Communication
- Promote Club programs and events through appropriate internal and external communication channels.
- Assist with parent outreach, program promotion, and community relationship-building to enhance visibility and member engagement.
- Represent the Club at special events and support the planning and execution of site-wide celebrations and youth recognition programs (e.g., Youth of the Year, Keystone).
Additional Responsibilities:
- Assist with maintaining a clean, organized, and welcoming Club environment.
- Help manage membership processes, including handling fees and member data.
- Support the implementation of safety and emergency protocols.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support Club operations and youth needs.
Relationships:
- Internal: Maintains close, daily contact with Club staff, volunteers, and youth members. Regularly communicates with supervisors to ensure alignment and quality programming.
- External: Engages with parents/guardians, schools, community partners, and local organizations to support Club initiatives and youth outcomes.
· Minimum of a high school diploma or GED Required. Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in youth development or related area preferred.
· Minimum of one year of experience working with youth in a Boys & Girls Club or youth-serving organization.
· Strong leadership and group management skills.
· Understanding of youth development principles and commitment to creating equitable, inclusive spaces.
· Strong verbal and written communication skills.
· Proficiency with technology including Microsoft Office, spreadsheets, and social media platforms.
· Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
· CPR and First Aid certification preferred (or willingness to obtain).
· Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
· Physical Requirements / Work Environment
o This position requires a dynamic, hands-on approach in a youth-centered environment. Must be able to:
· Regularly stand, walk, and engage in physical activities with youth.
· Occasionally lift and move items up to 25 pounds.
· Work in a sometimes noisy, fast-paced Club environment.
· Occasionally drive for Club-related errands or events.
