The Sawyer / Machine Operator / Lumber Inspector role is a key part of the sawmill operations team, responsible for operating and monitoring equipment, ensuring lumber quality, and maintaining smooth production flow. Operate sawmill equipment at various stations, including Head Saw, Resaw, and Trim/Grading

Conduct daily safety inspections of equipment before start-up to ensure safe and efficient operation

Process logs and cants according to production orders, balancing production goals with grade recovery and quality standards

Monitor equipment and material flow to prevent jams and maintain production efficiency

Inspect, grade, mark, tally, and scale lumber according to specifications and quality requirements

Determine optimal cuts to maximize product value and remove defective material

Perform basic preventative maintenance, such as cleaning scanners, filling oilers, and assisting with band saw changes

Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area

Communicate equipment issues, performance concerns, and maintenance needs to supervisors and the maintenance team

Experience in sawmill or manufacturing operations preferred

Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality control

Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced production environment

Mechanical aptitude and ability to perform basic preventative maintenance

Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively as part of a team

Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods, bend, stretch, push, pull, and reach as needed

Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds

Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screening and physical
$20.00 to $29.00 per hour, based on experience.
