Assistant Property Manager – Multifamily Property Management
Position Summary
The Assistant Property Manager supports the overall operations of the apartment community by assisting with leasing, resident relations, financial performance, rent collections, administrative functions, and property operations. This position works closely with the Property Manager to ensure the community operates efficiently, maintains high resident satisfaction, and meets occupancy and revenue goals.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Property Operations
- Assist the Property Manager with the daily operations of the community
- Help ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and Fair Housing regulations
- Support occupancy, retention, and financial performance goals
- Monitor property appearance and communicate operational concerns as needed
- Assist in coordinating vendor and contractor activities
Leasing & Resident Relations
- Support leasing efforts by assisting prospects and conducting tours when needed
- Assist with lease renewals and resident retention initiatives
- Address resident concerns and help resolve issues professionally and promptly
- Maintain positive relationships with current and prospective residents
- Assist with resident communications, notices, and community events
Financial & Administrative Responsibilities
- Assist with rent collections, delinquency management, and payment processing
- Monitor and follow up on outstanding balances and notices
- Prepare reports, maintain resident files, and ensure documentation accuracy
- Assist with invoice processing, purchase orders, and expense tracking
- Support month-end reporting and financial reconciliation processes
- Maintain accurate records in property management software systems
Team Support & Leadership
- Support and collaborate with leasing and maintenance teams
- Assist with training and coaching team members as directed by the Property Manager
- Help maintain a positive, professional, and team-oriented work environment
- Step in to oversee operations in the absence of the Property Manager when necessary
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; college coursework preferred
- Previous multifamily property management experience preferred
- Experience in leasing, collections, customer service, or administrative support preferred
- Knowledge of Fair Housing laws and property management operations preferred
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and property management software preferred
- Weekend availability may be required

- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills
- Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities
- Basic understanding of budgeting, collections, and financial reporting
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment
- Strong leadership and conflict-resolution abilities
Physical Requirements
- Ability to walk the property regularly, including stairs
- Ability to sit, stand, and operate office equipment for extended periods
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds
Work Environment
This position operates in a professional leasing office environment with regular interaction throughout the apartment community and outdoor property areas.
