The Cook is responsible for preparing and cooking nutritious, high-quality meals for 11 residents in accordance with dietary guidelines and facility policies. They ensure meals are prepared safely, efficiently, and meet the specific dietary needs and preferences of the residents.
Essential Functions
Food Preparation
- Prepares meals according to planned menus and standardized recipes.
- Prepares food in a timely manner, ensuring meals are served on schedule.
- Follows proper food handling techniques to maintain safety and sanitation standards.
- Prepares food items for special diets, texture modifications, and therapeutic diets as directed by the Executive Chef.
- Monitors food temperatures to ensure food safety.
- Tastes and inspects food to ensure quality and palatability.
- Modifies recipes as needed to accommodate dietary restrictions or preferences.
Menu Planning & Recipe Adherence:
- Follow planned menus and recipes accurately.
- Provides input and suggestions for menu changes and improvements.
- Assists in developing new recipes and menu items.
Kitchen Maintenance & Sanitation:
- Maintains a clean and organized work area.
- Cleans and sanitizes kitchen equipment, utensils, and work surfaces.
- Follows proper dishwashing procedures.
- Disposes of waste properly.
- Adheres to all sanitation and hygiene guidelines
Inventory & Ordering:
- Assists in monitoring food inventory levels.
- Informs the Executive Chef of needed supplies and food items.
- May need to shop at local grocery stores for food items.
- Assists with receiving and storing food deliveries.
Resident Satisfaction:
- Prepares meals that are appealing and meet the residents' preferences.
- Interacts with residents to gather feedback on meals.
- Addresses resident concerns and dietary requests in a timely and professional manner.
Compliance:
- Adheres to all federal, state, and local regulations related to food safety and sanitation.
- Follows facility policies and procedures.
- Participates in training programs as required.
Teamwork:
- Works cooperatively with Executive Chef, Executive Director and caregiver staff
- Assists caregivers with residents with mobility and transfers, utilizing proper lifting techniques, if needed.
- Participate in training sessions and team meetings to improve skills
- Assists with other tasks as needed
Requirements
- Required to PASS criminal background check, Physical, TB and Drug Test
- Must have a valid drivers license and be of 18 years of age.
- Food handler's permit or ServSafe certification is required.
- 3-5 years Previous cook experience is required
- Assisted Living Cook experience preferred
- Must be fluent in English and have excellent communication and strong interpersonal skills in person.
- Compassionate, patient, and nurturing attitude towards elderly individuals.
- Ability to handle emergencies calmly and effectively.
- Organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Physical stamina to assist residents with mobility and perform tasks requiring physical effort.
- Professional, punctual, reliable and neat
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift up to 40lbs at a time
- Must be comfortable standing for a prolonged period of time
- Ability to bend, stoop, and reach
Working Conditions
- Kitchen environment with exposure to heat, steam, and noise.
- May be required to work holidays and evenings.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $27.00 - $28.00 per hour
