IMPORTANT: HIRING RATES WILL BE BASED ON AVAILABILITY OF FUNDS, THE APPLICANT'S QUALIFICATIONS, AND OTHER RELEVANT FACTORS.
Appointment may be made at any rate within the salary range from SR-11C ($3,606) to SR-11E ($3,900) per month.
Serves in a trainee capacity, receiving on-and-off-the job training to learn the theories, techniques and methods used in lifeguarding; maintains pool and pool area; performs lifeguard duties under immediate supervision; and performs other related duties as required.
Distinguishing Characteristics:
This class represents the entry level class in the Pool Guard series. It involves formal and informal training in the basic principles, practices, methods and techniques of lifeguarding. Work assignments are made concurrently with orientation and training, and continued guidance and instructions are provided during such assignments. Attends training sessions and participates in informal discussions, on-the-job training, practice drills and demonstrations concerning lifeguarding and first aid procedures and techniques.

Familiarizes self with departmental policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.

Provides information and assistance to the general public.

Maintains the pool and surrounding pool area.

Under immediate supervision, performs limited lifeguarding duties.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
SKILLS ASSESSMENT:
Applicants are required to complete a performance exam. To participate in the performance exam, you must sign a waiver verifying that you are physically and mentally fit to participate in the 300 meter swim.
