YMCA Preschool Swim & Gym Assistant Instructor
Job Summary:
The Preschool Swim & Gym Assistant Instructor leads a dynamic, enrichment-based program for children ages 3–5 that combines water safety, physical play, and kindergarten readiness. This program is designed to help preschoolers build confidence in the pool, develop gross motor skills in the gym, and foster early learning skills through structured group activities that support school readiness. This is a seasonal school year position that runs from September-May and coincides with the Mifflin County School District.
Key Responsibilities:
- Instruct and supervise preschoolers during swim sessions, gym play, and classroom-style learning activities.
- Design and deliver fun, age-appropriate lessons focused on physical activity, water safety, early literacy, and math skills.
- Encourage social-emotional development, teamwork, and independence to prepare children for kindergarten.
- Ensure a nurturing, engaging, and safe environment at all times.
- Communicate regularly with parents about their child’s progress and daily experiences.
- Maintain YMCA safety and behavior standards.
Qualifications:
- Experience working with children
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Ability to work in a pool, gym, and classroom setting.
- Strong communication, patience, and enthusiasm for working with young children.
- Must have all 3 clearances (State Police, FBI, Child Abuse)
- Dependable, punctual, and able to work as part of a team.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to actively participate in aquatic and gym activities.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and lift equipment as needed.
- Ability to work in a pool environment and gymnasium setting.
- Ability to supervise and interact with children in an active recreational environment.
Job Type: Part-time
Expected hours: 20 per week
