Hydro Blaster
Position Summary
The Hydro Blaster is responsible for operating high-pressure water blasting equipment to clean, maintain, and prepare process equipment, tanks, vessels, piping systems, heat exchangers, and other plant assets within a chemical manufacturing environment. This position supports routine maintenance activities, plant turnarounds, and emergency cleanup efforts while maintaining strict adherence to safety, environmental, and operational procedures.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate high-pressure and ultra-high-pressure water blasting equipment safely and effectively.
- Perform cleaning of tanks, vessels, heat exchangers, process piping, reactors, cooling towers, and other industrial equipment.
- Set up, inspect, and dismantle hydro blasting equipment, hoses, pumps, and accessories.
- Assist with plant outages, turnarounds, maintenance projects, and emergency response activities.
- Follow lockout/tagout (LOTO), confined space entry, hot work, and other safety procedures.
- Conduct pre-job hazard assessments and participate in safety meetings.
- Inspect equipment before and after use and report defects or maintenance needs.
- Maintain accurate work records and complete required documentation.
- Wear and properly utilize required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Support housekeeping efforts and maintain clean work areas.
- Assist other maintenance and operations personnel as needed.
- Comply with all company policies, environmental regulations, and safety standards.
Education
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Technical, industrial, or safety training preferred.
Experience
- Two years experience in hydro blasting in an industrial setting.
- Experience working in manufacturing, chemical processing, refinery, or industrial environment is highly desirable.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of high-pressure water blasting equipment and safe operating practices.
- Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to identify hazards and work safely in a high-risk industrial environment.
- Basic mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Strong commitment to safety and environmental compliance.
Physical Requirements
- Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to wear required PPE, including respirators, chemical-resistant clothing, hearing protection, and fall protection equipment.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb ladders, kneel, and work in confined spaces.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to work at heights and around industrial process equipment.
Working Conditions
- Exposure to noise, vibration, chemicals, dust, steam, and varying temperatures.
- Work performed in both indoor and outdoor industrial environments.
- Shift work, overtime, weekends, holidays, and call-outs may be required during plant turnarounds or emergencies.
Safety Requirements
- Complete all required safety training.
- Follow all site-specific safety policies and procedures.
- Maintain qualification to wear respiratory protection and other required PPE.
- Participate in behavioral safety and hazard recognition programs.
- Immediately report unsafe conditions, incidents, and near misses.
