Position Overview
We are seeking a creative and collaborative individual to lead a weekly filmmaking enrichment experience within our TK/K classroom. This role will introduce children to filmmaking as a tool to capture their everyday experiences, ideas, and interactions.
This is not a traditional film class. The emphasis is on process over product, with a focus on children’s perspectives, exploration, and authentic experiences. Over the course of the school year, children will document their classroom life, culminating in a short documentary created from their footage.
This is a unique opportunity for someone interested in developing a program from the ground up. The specialist will have the flexibility to design and shape the curriculum while remaining responsive to the children and classroom environment. This program may also continue as an ongoing, annual offering.
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitate a weekly, small-group enrichment experience centered on:
- Using simple filmmaking tools (iPads or basic cameras)
- Capturing real-life moments in the classroom and outdoor environments
- Encouraging children to share what they notice, wonder, and want to document
- Support children in engaging with filmmaking in a developmentally appropriate way, including taking turns, handling equipment safely, and participating in the process
- Approach the work with flexibility, adapting to the flow of the classroom and children’s interests rather than following a fixed plan
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and parents to identify meaningful opportunities for documentation and storytelling
- Review, organize, and edit footage collected throughout the year (offsite work expected)
- Create a final end-of-year classroom documentary that reflects the children’s experiences and community
Qualifications
- Experience working with young children (ages 3–6)
- Basic video editing skills (iMovie, Adobe Premiere, or similar)
- Comfort using simple filmmaking tools with children
- Strong understanding of developmentally appropriate practices
- Ability to be flexible, patient, and responsive in a classroom setting
Preferred Qualifications
- Background in early childhood education, film, media, or visual arts
- Familiarity with Reggio Emilia–inspired environments or emergent curriculum
- Experience with documentation as a tool for storytelling

Pay: From $30.00 per hour
