Job Summary
Lincoln Pipestone Rural Water System (LPRW) is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Water System Treatment Plant Operator to help ensure the safe, reliable, and compliant treatment and delivery of drinking water. This role is responsible for operating and monitoring treatment processes and equipment, collecting samples, maintaining records, performing routine maintenance, and responding to alarms or emergencies. The ideal candidate is safety-focused, mechanically inclined, and committed to protecting public health.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor water treatment plant processes, equipment, and SCADA systems.
- Test and monitor water quality and adjust treatment processes as needed to maintain compliance.
- Collect samples, complete required reports, and maintain accurate operational and maintenance records. Perform preventive maintenance and assist with troubleshooting plant equipment and systems.
- Safely handle treatment chemicals and maintain chemical inventory.
- Respond to alarms, equipment failures, and other emergency operating conditions.
- Participate in an on-call rotation and work outside normal business hours when needed.
- Work collaboratively with supervisors, coworkers, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minnesota Drinking Water Operator Certificate preferred, or ability to obtain required certification within an established timeframe.
- Associate degree or vocational training in water treatment, environmental science, or a related field is helpful but not required.
- Valid driver’s license required; ability to obtain and maintain a CDL preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to workplace safety.
- Mechanical aptitude and basic computer skills, including the ability to work with SCADA systems.
- Ability to communicate effectively and work well as part of a team.
- Work Schedule and Environment
This position includes exposure to treatment chemicals, temperature changes, noise, and physically demanding work such as lifting, bending, climbing, and working in confined or elevated spaces. Weekend work, after-hours callouts, and participation in an on-call rotation are required.
