Operations & Maintenance Manager

This role provides leadership and daily oversight of operations and maintenance within a power generation plant, supporting the Plant Manager in achieving key objectives across employee safety, environmental compliance, unit availability, reliability, and profitability. The position combines hands on technical oversight with people leadership, ensuring the facility operates in full compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies.

What You'll Do
The O&M Manager assists the Plant Manager in overseeing mission critical programs including performance management, outage management, project management, asset integrity, and financial management, while working to maintain high plant reliability and cost competitiveness without compromising safety or environmental commitments. This person supports and emphasizes safety and environmental programs, ensures regulatory compliance, and works to eliminate injuries to employees, contractors, and visitors. The role includes interfacing with regulatory, political, business, civic, and public representatives as directed by senior leadership, and ensuring plants are operated and maintained in compliance with NERC and WECC regional standards, including self certifications and audits. The manager identifies permit requirements, ensures required testing is performed, and provides the information needed to renew permits with jurisdictional regulatory agencies. Additional responsibilities include assisting in development and administration of the O&M and Capital budgets, preparing and maintaining reports and documentation, responding to plant trips and upsets, and building an organizational culture that encourages employee involvement, innovative thinking, and continuous improvement. The role also involves promoting productivity and teamwork through open communication and timely decision making, establishing goals and expectations for assigned employees, monitoring performance, providing management direction in the Plant Manager's absence, overseeing inventory management and procurement, devising and implementing profit improvement projects, providing technical support to business development and other company plants, and working with budget analysts and managers on comprehensive O&M and Capital plans. This position operates with limited to no supervision and requires independently prioritizing and executing responsibilities.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related technical discipline (7+ years of power generation experience, or equivalent exceptional work or military experience in a related technical field, may substitute for the degree)
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in the power generation field
- Knowledge of operation and maintenance of gas steam turbines and electrical generators
- Ability to read and understand control logic diagrams, P&IDs, and other technical material related to power plant operation and maintenance
- Strong writing, presentation, and persuasive verbal communication skills
- Advanced computer proficiency with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Demonstrated technical expertise in relevant standards, procedures, and applicable government and environmental regulations
- Valid U.S. driver's license with an acceptable driving record
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous second line supervisory experience (Assistant Plant Manager, O&M Manager, or O&M Supervisor)
- Operational knowledge of work and asset management and analytical or reporting applications
- Demonstrated understanding of utility finance
- Proven track record of achieving performance and operational metrics and driving process adherence
