Position Overview
Marcus Aurelio Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy is seeking an experienced, professional, and dependable Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt Instructor to join our coaching team.
This position is for an instructor who is passionate about teaching and developing students—not simply someone looking for mat time.
Our academy works extensively with children and families, so we are looking for a coach who can teach Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at a high level while also demonstrating patience, leadership, professionalism, strong communication skills, and excellent classroom management.
The instructor must be willing to learn and consistently follow our academy's established curriculum, teaching methodology, policies, and student development system.
REQUIRED Qualifications
Applicants must meet all of the following requirements:
- Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt — required.
- Minimum 3 years of proven experience teaching Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to children and adults.
- Fluent English with strong verbal communication skills — required.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and lead children's classes effectively.
- Strong understanding of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu fundamentals, technique, safety, and class structure.
- Professional, dependable, punctual, and organized.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate professionally with students, parents, coaches, and staff.
- Ability and willingness to follow an established curriculum and coaching system.
- Must be comfortable receiving feedback, participating in instructor development, and working as part of a coaching team.
- Must be willing to undergo a background check prior to employment.
Please note: This position requires a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt. Brown belts or lower ranks will not be considered.
Preferred Qualifications
- Spanish fluency is a strong plus.
- Experience working in a structured martial arts academy or youth program.
- Experience with student evaluations, belt/stripe progression, and student development.
- Experience communicating with parents regarding children's progress and behavior.
- CPR/First Aid certification is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Teach and lead Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes for children, teens, and adults.
- Deliver organized, energetic, safe, and professional classes.
- Follow the academy's established curriculum and teaching methodology.
- Maintain strong classroom management, particularly during children's classes.
- Help students develop technique, discipline, confidence, respect, and appropriate training behavior.
- Monitor student progress and assist with evaluations, stripes, belt promotions, and testing.
- Communicate professionally and respectfully with parents regarding student progress when appropriate.
- Maintain a safe, positive, disciplined, and welcoming training environment.
- Arrive on time and be fully prepared before scheduled classes.
- Assist with academy events, seminars, belt ceremonies, and special programs when needed.
- Participate in staff meetings, instructor training, and ongoing professional development.
- Work cooperatively with other instructors and academy staff.
- Represent the academy professionally both on and off the mat.
