Job Title: BIM Technician
GeoPoint is a land surveying company with multiple locations, specializing in land development, geomatics, geospatial mapping, commercial surveys, and subsurface utility engineering.
Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented BIM (Building Information Modeling) Technician to join our expanding team. In this pivotal role, you will utilize your expertise in digital modeling, system design, and construction documentation to support complex projects. Your energetic approach will drive collaboration across disciplines, ensuring precise, efficient, and innovative project delivery from concept through construction.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Modeling & Production
- Develop, author, and maintain high-quality BIM models using Autodesk Civil 3D, Revit, and related platforms across all project phases.
- Produce construction coordination models, plan sets, quantity schedules, and project documentation directly from BIM model data.
- Create discipline-specific model content, families, and components to meet project LOD and contractual requirements.
- Perform point cloud registration, processing, and integration into BIM workflows to support as-built, survey, and construction documentation deliverables.
- Update models and drawings in response to project revisions, field changes, RFIs, as-built data, and supplemental instructions in a timely and organized manner.
- Manage modeling workload independently across multiple concurrent projects, escalating resource or schedule conflicts to the Software Manager proactively.
Coordination & Clash Detection
- Coordinate models across multiple disciplines — architectural, structural, civil, and MEP — using C3D, Revit, Navisworks, Autodesk Forma, and other common BIM tools.
- Execute clash detection runs, generate clash reports, and lead model-level conflict resolution workflows independently or with direction from the Software Manager.
- Participate in and, when required, facilitate project coordination meetings — including clash reviews, model progress sessions, and BIM Execution Plan (BxP) kick-offs.
- Manage the receipt, review, and integration of external discipline and subcontractor models into the federated coordination model.
- Communicate model conflicts, design discrepancies, and RFI-generating clashes to appropriate project parties and maintain issue tracking through resolution.
- Ensure model integrity and consistency prior to external submission, coordination review sessions, or handoff to the construction team.
BIM Program Buildout & Standards
- Actively participate in establishing and structuring GeoPoint’s VDC/BIM workflows, file standards, templates, naming conventions, and quality control processes from the ground up.
- Assist the Software Manager in developing and refining internal BIM standards and contributing to project BIM Execution Plans (BxPs).
- Enforce model standards and quality expectations on all active deliverables; perform internal QC audits prior to external distribution or client handoff.
- Maintain organized project archives, coordination logs, issue trackers, and documentation within GeoPoint’s CDE platforms (Autodesk Forma Industry Cloud / ACC, Trimble Connect).
- Identify workflow gaps, recurring coordination issues, and process improvement opportunities and bring recommendations to the Software Manager.
- As the BIM program grows and junior technicians are hired or developed internally, provide technical guidance, peer review, and informal mentoring to support team capability development.
Contract Awareness & Deliverable Compliance
- Review project contracts, special conditions, and BIM requirement appendices to understand GeoPoint’s scope, deliverable obligations, and LOD expectations.
- Ensure that all model deliverables — including as-built models, point cloud integrations, IFC exports, and coordination packages — are produced to contractual and BxP specifications.
- Track BIM deliverable milestones across assigned projects and communicate schedule risks or quality concerns to the Software Manager early.
Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with GeoPoint project managers, engineers, surveyors, and field crews to ensure model data aligns with real-world conditions and survey deliverables.
- Assist with visualization, data extraction, and quantity takeoffs to support estimating and project management functions.
- Serve as GeoPoint’s project-level BIM contact when the Software Manager delegates coordination responsibility on lower-complexity or well-defined scopes.
- Communicate project-level modeling progress, issues, and decisions clearly and promptly to the Software Manager and project leads.
Safety Responsibility:
- Adhere to all company and regulatory safety standards and procedures.
- Identify potential safety hazards and take appropriate corrective actions.
- Report accidents, injuries, and unsafe conditions in a timely manner.
- Participate in safety training and promote a culture of workplace safety.
