Hours: Part-time (0.5 FTE) – Day Shift: 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with 30-minute meal period, schedule includes every other weekend and holiday rotation
Description:
Position Overview: The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse, will provide and assist in safe and effective patient care of patients throughout all stages of life. The CNA provides personal cares including bathing, feeding, and assistance with personal hygiene. Nursing Assistants perform full sets of vital signs, pass meal trays, maintain secure environments, and perform treatments and tasks within their scope of practice. Nursing assistants participate in hourly rounding and update patient white boards based on patient needs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform routine skills and treatments within CNA scope of practice in a manner that provides for patient comfort and protects the patient’s dignity, privacy, and confidentiality.
- Perform tasks and technical skills as delegated in accordance with the clinical unit’s policies and procedures for adults, geriatric, and pediatric patients.
- Recognize problems, changes in patient conditions, and reports findings to the patient’s assigned nurse.
- Answer patient call lights in a prompt and courteous manner.
- Assist patients of all ages with personal hygiene needs and activities of daily living.
- Perform bedside glucose monitoring and glucose quality controls as needed.
- Carry out isolation techniques in accordance with infection control policies and procedures.
- Help deliver meal trays and snacks. Assist patients with meals and snacks as needed.
- Perform complete sets of vital signs and accurate intakes and output. Reports findings to nursing staff and documents accurately in electronic health record.
- Collect specimens as needed.
- Perform hour of sleep cares.
- Perform hourly rounding and record it in the electronic health record.
- Provide 1:1 monitoring of patients as needed.
- Operate EZ lift and EZ stand for assisting with patient transfers.
- Prepare patient rooms for admissions and discharges
- Help prepare patients for discharge and escort them to their transportation.
- Perform surgical baths.
- Maintain cleanliness in patient’s rooms to help ensure patient and staff safety.
- Clean equipment and return to storage location.
- Update patient white board.
- Assist in Birth Center with post-delivery clean up and patient care needs as directed by Birth Center RN.
- Assist with post-partum mother and baby care as directed by Birth Center RN.
- Relieve for Birth Center breaks as appropriate and as directed by RN.
- Assist in Emergency Department as directed by nursing staff and within the CNA scope of practice.
- Assist in Radiology Department with transferring patients if needed.
- Assists in maintenance of safe, clean work environment.
- Assists with the general operation of the Medical-surgical, Birth Center, and Emergency Department.

Minimum Education and/or Experience Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of a Nurse Aide course, including successful written and skills exams.
- State of Iowa Direct Care Worker Registry listing required.

Licensure/Certification Required:
- Current certification as a nursing assistant in the state of Iowa.
- Basic Life Support (BLS).
