Job Description:
The Indy Language Center is a private language school in the Indianapolis/Carmel Area. We host adult language learning classes where students come to develop and/or improve their conversational fluency in their language of choice. We assign classes to teachers based on their availability, and we have from 2 up to maybe 10 hours of work available each week. Teachers sign up for a specific number of hours and desired schedule and are placed on a roster of instructors/contractors who have access to classes available at our school.
We can also offer you in-person interpretation assignments! Our sister-company Indy Translations specializes in interpreting and translating and has many opportunities for your skills.
Our application process entails an interview where the director and staff will be participating as students in a mock lesson given by candidates to recognize translators, interpreters and language teachers with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide quality instruction as an ILC language teacher. Teachers will be placed on a roster of qualified contractors with access to classes available at our school.
Responsibilities:
- Teach in-person lessons in Carmel, Indiana
- Manage and educate students in a classroom setting
- Develop and implement engaging lesson plans for beginning to advanced adult and/or young language learners
- Guide students in meaningful and engaging classroom activities designed to encourage using the target language
- Maintain positive relationships with students and comply with all school policies
- Document and share student progress and evaluations
- Maintain attendance sheets and enter hourly class records on our online class management system
Qualifications:
- Previous experience in teaching or other educational fields (minimum 1 year)
- Native speaker of target language is a plus
- Time spent living or working in an area where target language is used is a plus
- Bachelor’s degree in language education (preferred but not required)
- Be able to work with groups of up to 12 people and in on-on-one private sessions
- Strong classroom management skills
- Ability to build rapport with students
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong leadership qualities
- Flexible day schedule
- Able to commute easily within the Indianapolis/Carmel area
Job Types: Contract, Part-time
Pay: $25.00 - $35.00 per hour
