Overview
Equipment Group International (EGI) is seeking a dynamic, analytical, and detail-oriented Industrial Buyer to join our fast-paced supply chain team. In this role, you will be responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and purchasing prime raw metals, custom fabricated components, and tooling across our manufacturing and industrial distribution operations. Your commercial expertise and market insight will drive the cost efficiency and operational success of our production schedules, ensuring optimal vendor placement, strict quality compliance, and disciplined budget management. This position offers an exciting opportunity to directly influence EGI’s procurement strategies through data-driven decision-making, proactive supplier management, and strategic metals buying.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Sourcing & Execution: Execute purchase orders for structural alloys, sheet, plate, bar, tubing, and machining components based on demand forecasts, BOM structures, and ERP replenishment signals.
- Commercial Negotiation & Cost Control: Leverage commodity indices and market data to negotiate competitive pricing, volume discounts, payment terms, and freight logistics to maximize operational margins.
- Supplier & Service Center Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with steel/aluminum mills, regional service centers, master distributors, and outside processing partners (e.g., heat treating, coating, laser cutting).
- Quality & Traceability Governance: Enforce material verification standards by securing and reviewing Mill Test Reports (MTRs), Certificates of Conformance (CoCs), and heat/lot traceability in compliance with ISO standards.
- Data-Driven Inventory Management: Partner with operations and warehouse teams to monitor inventory turnover, balance lead times against production schedules, and minimize remnant waste and scrap.
- Discrepancy & Claims Resolution: Manage non-conformance claims (NCRs), dimensional/metallurgical discrepancies, and invoice matching holds directly with vendors and internal quality teams.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience: 3+ years of direct purchasing or procurement experience within metals distribution, structural fabrication, industrial equipment, or precision manufacturing.
- Technical Skills: Ability to read blueprints, engineering drawings, material specifications (ASTM, ASME, AISI), and bill of materials (BOMs).
- Systems & Analytics: Proficiency in ERP/MRP software for inventory control and purchase order workflows; advanced Microsoft Excel skills for cost modeling and data analysis.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Industrial Technology, or equivalent practical industry experience.
- Certifications (Preferred): APICS (CPIM/CSCP), ISM (CPSM), or Lean/Six Sigma exposure.
