Job Overview
We are seeking a passionate Classical Ballet Instructor & Artistic Associate who shares our commitment to artistic excellence, exceptional dance education, and the enduring value of classical ballet. This is more than a teaching position—it is an opportunity to help shape an established ballet school while working alongside the Artistic Director to expand programs, mentor young dancers, and cultivate a thriving artistic community.
This position offers opportunities for increased artistic leadership over time, including collaboration in program development, productions, and the continued artistic direction of Mendocino Ballet.
Position Details
- Approximately 20 hours per week (schedule to be finalized)
- $25–$30 per hour, depending on experience
- Additional approximately 5 rehearsal hours per week beginning in October for productions
- Opportunities for additional teaching, choreography, community outreach, and artistic responsibilities as the school grows
- Provide dance instruction across studio programs and, when needed, off-site K–12 dance enrichment classes in partnership with local school districts (vendor program).
Qualifications
We are looking for someone who:
- Has extensive training in classical ballet
- Has professional performance experience (preferred)
- Has experience teaching dancers of varying ages and levels
- Demonstrates excellent classroom management and communication skills
- Values excellence, discipline, and artistry while creating a supportive and encouraging learning environment
- Enjoys collaborating with faculty, families, and the Board of Directors
- Is excited to contribute to the continued artistic growth of Mendocino Ballet
- Willingness to complete school district onboarding requirements (fingerprinting, TB clearance, background check) for off-site teaching assignments.
Experience in one or more of the following is highly desirable:
- Jazz
- Contemporary
- Modern
- Pilates
- Dance conditioning
- Progressing Ballet Technique (PBT)
- Choreography and production experience
