Relief Valve and Control Valve Repair Technician
The Relief Valve and Control Valve Repair Technician is responsible for the inspection, testing, repair, calibration, assembly, and certification of pressure relief valves, safety valves, control valves, and associated instrumentation. This position performs precision mechanical work in accordance with ASME, NBIC, API, and manufacturer specifications while maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety.
The technician works primarily in a valve repair shop with occasional field service assignments at customer facilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Inspect, disassemble, clean, troubleshoot, and evaluate pressure relief valves, safety relief valves, pressure reducing valves, and control valves.
- Perform repairs and rebuilds using OEM specifications and approved repair procedures.
- Replace worn or damaged components including seats, discs, springs, guides, stems, diaphragms, actuators, packing, and seals.
- Perform lapping and machining of valve seating surfaces as required.
- Test and calibrate pressure relief valves using certified test equipment.
- Test, calibrate, and troubleshoot pneumatic, electric, and electro-pneumatic control valves and actuators.
- Assemble valves to manufacturer torque specifications and quality standards.
- Generate accurate inspection reports, repair documentation, calibration records, and certification paperwork.
- Maintain National Board "VR" and "T/O" quality requirements when applicable.
- Verify valve performance through functional, seat leakage, and set pressure testing.
- Identify repair recommendations and communicate findings to supervisors or customers.
- Operate shop equipment including valve test benches, lathes, drill presses, sandblasting equipment, and cleaning systems.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Follow OSHA safety regulations and company safety procedures.
- Support field service projects during plant outages or customer emergencies when required.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- 3 years of industrial valve repair experience preferred.
- Experience repairing ASME pressure relief valves and or industrial control valves.
- Ability to read mechanical drawings, P&IDs, valve cross-sections, and OEM manuals.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with excellent troubleshooting skills.
- Proficiency using precision measuring instruments including:
- Micrometers
- Dial indicators
- Calipers
- Torque wrenches
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to stand, bend, climb, and work safely around industrial equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
- National Board VR Certification experience.
- Experience with Crosby, Consolidated, Farris, Anderson Greenwood, Kunkle, Leser, or similar relief valves.
- Experience servicing Fisher, Masoneilan, Valtek, Samson, Flowserve, Emerson, or comparable control valves.
- Familiarity with pneumatic positioners, digital positioners, actuators, and instrumentation.
- Forklift and overhead crane experience.
- Welding or machining experience is a plus.
- Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.

- Occasionally work in confined spaces, elevated locations, or industrial plant environments during field assignments.
Work Environment
This position is primarily based in a climate-controlled industrial valve repair shop. Occasional travel to customer facilities may be required for on-site valve testing, repair, and outage support. Overtime and weekend work may be required during plant shutdowns or emergency service calls.

Pay: $30.90 - $31.50 per hour
