Bowdoin College’s Department of Classics invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty appointment in classics at the Assistant Professor level, beginning July 1, 2027. The position subfield is ancient Mediterranean archaeology, with a preference for candidates whose research involves interactions between Greek, Roman, and other peoples. We welcome interdisciplinary and nontraditional approaches to the study of classics. The teaching load is two courses per semester; successful candidates will contribute enthusiastically to the department’s Latin, Greek and Classics course offerings. Bowdoin is particularly interested in candidates dedicated to undergraduate teaching and with a promise of long-term successful research. A Ph.D. in classics, archaeology, or a related field is expected by the date of the appointment.
