What We Are Looking For: We are seeking talented individuals who can prepare and paint steel compressed gas trailers, bulk storage containers, as well as aluminum trailers. The ideal candidate will have a strong attention to detail, great work ethic, the ability to follow instructions closely, and the desire to learn new tasks under minimal supervision. The Painting position includes preparing trailer tanks, hoppers, and bulk storage container trailers for painting to ensure proper paint adhesion. The position is responsible for the mixing and application of paints to ensure a high quality coating.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare aluminum and steel trailers, as well as steel bulk storage containers, for painting. This includes required bodywork repairs (hand sanding and metal preparation) to ensure proper adhesion.
- Perform basic auto body repair techniques when necessary to restore damaged surfaces prior to painting.
- Repair flaws in paint.
- Ensure the safe and proper mixing/handling/application of paints and solvents.
- Work with vendors, quality control, and other professionals to ensure correct paint color.
- Communicate with vendors, as required, including requesting PO’s from the purchasing department.
- Paint using spray system or other required methods.
- Use scissor lift and scaffolding.
- Use small tools and brushes as required.
- Maintain cleanliness of paint booth, paint kitchen and flammable storage room. Replace filters in paint booth as needed.
- Ensure proper handling, labeling and containerizing of Hazardous Waste and spent aerosol cans generated by the painting operation.
- Operate the reclamation system for used paint.
- Follow all EPA and OSHA requirements.
- Follow safety protocols diligently while working with hazardous materials and power tools in manufacturing or construction settings.
- Collaborate with other internal teams to coordinate painting schedules and meet project deadlines.
- Previous automotive or steel and aluminum manufacturing painting experience required.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
- Previous experience in a manufacturing environment. Familiarity with fabrication processes.
- Ability to spray metallic paints and clear coats.
- Understanding of paint application technical data sheets.
- Ability to prioritize tasks using a published schedule.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure.
- Ability to measure accurately using a tape measure.
- Ability to read and interpret documents, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to multi-task.
- Must be able to work well alone or with a group.
- Excellent housekeeping and organizational skills.
- Forklift Certification if needed (will train).
